War of the Rif
Description: This event will generate rebellions in Morocco, where France
will be forced to leave a big garrison.
Historical notes: After the withdrawal of troops to France, the dissident
tribes of the Blad-es-Siba seized the opportunity to attack the lightly
defended French positions in the Atlas foothills and the Moulouya valley.
Resident-General Lyautey faced a crisis and would have to act quickly to
prevent defeat in Morocco, the loss of which would likely lead to the loss
French possessions throughout North Africa.
Conditions: automatic.
Difficulty: die roll 3+.
Modifiers: -4 in 1914, +1 if Turkey is at war against the Entente, +1 if
“Successful Jihad” event has occurred.
Enter in play: Events phase, any turn.
Option #1: (historical choice) Rebellion – France loses immediately 1 NW
point, and a rebellion appears in Morocco. France will have to leave at least
3 garrisoning Corps in Morocco. Otherwise she will suffer from a National
Morale loss of 1 point per turn. A new “Colonial Uprising” event (against
France) is generated and shuffled inside the deck.
Notes: once successfully in play, the event is discarded and cannot occur
again.
End of the War of the Rif
Description: This event will remove all negative effects brought in play by
the War of the Rif.
Historical notes: Such were the swift and brilliant results of
General Lyautey’s actions against the Rebel tribes, the rebellion was
subdued in a matter of months. Lyautey’s success ensured the vital
supply of Moroccan meat and wheat would reach France throughout
the war and under his administrative talents the country was to
thrive. Supported by French industrial and agricultural specialists, factories
were built, roads constructed and miles of fallow land ploughed
and sown.
Conditions: event “War of the Rif” has successfully occurred.
Difficulty: die roll 5+.
Enter in play: Events phase, any turn.
Option #1: (historical choice) Peace in Morocco – Uprising in Morocco
ended: France may free the garrisoning Corps that could be located in
Morocco.
Notes: once successfully in play, the event is discarded and cannot occur
again.
Colonial Uprising (against Great Britain)
Description: This event will generate rebellions in one colony.
Historical notes: Throughout the areas controlled by the colonial powers
sporadic uprisings took place as native peoples rebelled against foreign
rule and the exploitation of land and people. In trying to remove the
colonial regime Rebels were often only concerned with defending
indigenous traditions and improving their immediate local conditions and
generally were not seeking the creation of a sovereign nation-state.
Conditions: automatic.
Difficulty: die roll 3+.
