Option #1: (historical choice) Typhus hits Balkans – Typhus in Serbia will<br />
last 3 turns, bringing severe losses for all troops located in the whole<br />
Balkan front: a losses test will be performed during each Reinforcements<br />
phase for all forces actually deployed on the Serbian front, a new “Strike”<br />
event is generated and shuffled inside the deck.<br />

Spanish Flu Epidemic<br />
Description: This event will bring severe attrition losses in all war theatres!<br />
Historical notes: The 1918 influenza pandemic was first found in the United<br />
States, before spreading to nearly every corner of the world. It was caused<br />
by an unusually severe and deadly virus strain, and in in contrast to most<br />
influenza outbreaks, many of those affected were healthy young adults.<br />
The outbreak lasted for more than 2 years and It is estimated that it claimed<br />
the lives of between 20 and 100 million people.<br />

Modifiers: -2 before 1917, +1 in 1918.<br />

Option #1: (historical choice) Spanish Flu hits Europe – Spanish Flu will<br />
last 3 turns, bringing severe losses to all troops located in Europe for 3<br />
turn: a losses test will be performed during each Reinforcements phase for<br />

Czar Nicholas II takes command in Russian GHQ<br />
Description: The appointment of Czar Nicholas II as commander-in-chief of<br />
Russian GHQ will bring some penalties to Russia for all social matters.<br />
Historical notes: The outbreak of war found Russia grossly unprepared.<br />
Germany had ten times as much railway track per square mile and<br />
whereas Russian soldiers travelled an average of 1,290 km to reach the<br />
front, German soldiers travelled less than a quarter of that distance.<br />
Russian heavy industry was still too small to equip the massive armies the<br />

Czar could raise and her reserves of munitions were pitifully low. Facing the<br />
combined forces of the German and Austro-Hungarian Empires, they<br />
suffered staggering losses. In mid-1915 Czar Nicholas made the decision<br />
to take direct command of the Russian armies. This was a fatal mistake as<br />
he was now directly associated in the mind of his countrymen to all<br />
subsequent losses.<br />

Option #1: (historical choice) Czar Nicholas to the GHQ – This decision is<br />
going to bring the following consequences: Czar Nicholas II takes the<br />
command of Russian GHQ, Grand Duke Nicholas is appointed<br />
commander of the XII Russian army, Russia will suffer from a -1 die roll<br />
penalty modifier to all Social tests die rolls as long Nicholas II will be in<br />
command of the GHQ, Russia suffers an immediate -5 NW penalty, a new<br />
“Strike” event is generated and shuffled inside the deck.<br />

Strike<br />
Description: This event will generate strikes in the target nation, so<br />
bringing negative effects for social tests.<br />
Historical notes: A general strike is a strike action by a critical mass of the<br />
labour force in a city, region or country. It may be based on political or<br />
economic goals, and tends to gain its momentum from the ideological or<br />
class sympathies of the participants. It is also characterized by<br />
participation of workers in a multitude of workplaces, who have no direct<br />
stake in the outcome of the strike, and tends to involve entire communities.<br />

Modifiers: +1 in 1917+.<br />

Option #1: (historical choice) Strike – The consequences of strikes are<br />
heavy: target nation will suffer from a -1 die roll penalty modifier to all Social<br />
tests die rolls for the following 6 turns, she also suffers an immediate<br />
random loss of NW (max 3 points) and a Strike counter is deployed on her<br />
capital.<br />
Notes: once successfully in play, this event is discarded and can be later<br />
reshuffled in the deck. The deck contains 7 “Strike” events, and a lot of<br />
other events, once played, commonly generate new strike cards!
