ealized that any ship delivered to the Ottoman could end up as an
opponent of the British Navy. Therefore it was decided to requisition both
dreadnoughts, although both were already paid. The Sultan Osman I. and
the Reshadieh were renamed HMS Agincourt, and HMS Erin to serve in
the Royal Navy.
Conditions: automatic.
Difficulty: automatic.
Enter in play: beginning of the War-Plans phase, only during ‘Early August
1914’ (turn 1).
Option #1: Deliver ships to Turkey – Choosing to respect the terms of the
treaty with Turkey will trigger the following consequences: Sultan Osman
and Reshadieh battleships are assigned to Ottoman Fleet, and the Allies
benefit of a diplomatic bonus on Turkey (-1 die roll bonus modifier to all dice
rolls on Diplomacy Table).
Option #2: (historical choice) Keep ships in British shipyards – If you will not
respect the terms of the treaty with Turkey, the following consequences will
be triggered: Agincourt battleship is assigned to British Home Fleet, and
the Allies suffer from a diplomatic penalty on Turkey (+1 die roll penalty
modifier to all dice rolls on Diplomacy Table, so a bonus for Central
Powers).
Notes: once successfully in play, the event is discarded and cannot occur
again.
Blockade
Description: This event will enact the “Blockade” political option, with all its
economic and diplomatic consequences!
Historical notes: Due to superior naval forces, the British were able to
establish a naval blockade of Germany already early in the war, which was
unusually brutal in even denying food deliveries. Over the course of the
war, the British blockade on Germany caused about 750,000 German
civilians to die from starvation. The blockade was even continued after the
Armistice in November 1918 until early 1919, causing even more people
dieing from starvation.
Conditions: Great Britain must be at war against the Central Powers.
Difficulty: automatic.
Enter in play: end of the Diplomacy phase, from ‘Early August 1914’
(turn 1) to the end of the war, provided the condition is met.
Option #1: (historical choice) Declare the Blockade – the political
action “Blockade” is immediately adopted (see the Politics section for
details).
Option #2: Delay the Blockade – you will be able to enact the Blockade
using the political action.
Notes: once successfully in play, the event is discarded and cannot occur
again.
British Marine Corps Reinforcement
Description: This event will allow you to deploy the British Marine Corps
either in Egypt, or Belgium, or in the BEF.
Historical notes: After the forts at Liege had fallen, the remaining Belgian
troops were withdrawn to the fortress city Antwerp. The British Cabinet
viewed the siege of Antwerp with great disquiet, as the fall of Antwerp
would allow the Germans to move towards the channel ports.
Consequently a division of troops, originally planned for the British
Expeditionary Forces, was re-deployed to Antwerp and later a further
6,000 British Navy troops were dispatched. However, the British naval
forces were too late, the Belgian government relocated from Antwerp to
Ostend at the very same day the British forces landed at Ostend. The city
of Antwerp surrendered to the Germans on October 10th. Although the
British troops did not move towards Antwerp at all, the British intervention
had prolonged the defense of Antwerp for perhaps five days.
Conditions: Great Britain must be at war against the Central Powers.
Difficulty: automatic.
Enter in play: end of Military phase, from ‘August 1914’ (turn 2) to the end
of the war, provided the condition is met.
Option #1: British Marine Corps deployed in Egypt (condition: Turkey must
be at war with the Entente).
Option #2: British Marine Corps deployed in Belgium (condition: Belgium
must be at war with the Central Powers).
Option #3: British Marine Corps deployed in I British army “BEF”.
Notes: once successfully in play, the event is discarded and cannot occur
again. Options are in priority order: #1, #2, #3. If option #1 can take place,
it's automatically performed. If option #1 cannot be performed, option #2 is
checked, and so on.
Turkey
The genocide of Armenian people
Description: This event will generate some penalties for Turkey in all social
matters.
Historical notes: When war broke out leaders of the Young Turk regime
decided that it would provide the perfect opportunity to solve the “Armenian
question” and extermination orders were transmitted to provincial
governors throughout Turkey. Armed roundups began on the evening of
April 24, 1915. Men were put into slave labour battalions or simply
arrested and shot, women, children, and the elderly were taken on death
