Enter in play: end of the Events phase, from ‘June 1916’ (turn 18) to the end<br />

of the war, provided the condition is met.<br />

Option #1: (historical choice) Reformation fails – Maybe it’s too early to<br />

spend your time in such a great effort. The reformation has failed and a few<br />

negative effects will be applied: Austria-Hungary loses 5 NW points.<br />

Anyway, you may attempt another reformation in the incoming future.<br />

Notes: once successfully in play, the event is discarded and cannot occur<br />

again.<br />

Hungarian Crisis<br />

Description: This event will bring major penalties in social tests for<br />

Austria-Hungary, and even a collapse of the monarchy in worst cases!<br />

Historical notes: Following the inauguration of the Triple Monarchy by Karl,<br />

tensions grew in Hungary as the division of power increased unrest among<br />

nationalists who were calling for secession from the empire. With the strain<br />

of war the weak fabric of the monarchy began to unravel.<br />

Conditions: the event “Reformation of the Austrian Empire” has<br />

successfully occurred and Austria-Hungary decided to introduce the Triple<br />

Monarchy reformation and the event “Triple Monarchy successfully<br />

introduced in the Austrian Empire” has successfully occurred.<br />

Difficulty: die roll 4+.<br />

Enter in play: end of the Events phase, from ‘July 1916’ (turn 19) to the end<br />

of the war, provided the condition is met.<br />

Option #1: (historical choice) Hungarian people rebel to the Monarchy<br />

reformation – The effects of this crisis could be devastating:<br />

Austria-Hungary will suffers -1 penalty to all die rolls for Social Tests and<br />

Stability tests, NW of Austria-Hungary received a random bonus (1–12<br />

points), but a stability test is immediately performed. If the national<br />

agitations in Hungary bring Revolution, the Triple Monarchy will collapse,<br />

bringing the immediate surrender of Imperial forces!<br />

Hungarian Crisis brings about collapse of Austro-Hungarian empire<br />

Description: This event will bring the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian<br />

monarchy!<br />

Historical notes: Tensions in Hungary following the inauguration of the<br />

Triple Monarchy grew and the Hungarian parliament took a more clearly<br />

resolute nationalist stance. Calls for Hungarian secession were made as<br />

the depravations of war triggered strikes and demonstrations at home and<br />

mutinies in her armed forces. Finally independence was proclaimed with<br />

Karl remaining nominal King of Hungary and an armistice signed with the<br />

Entente.<br />

Conditions: the event “Hungarian Crisis” has successfully occurred and a<br />

revolution has broken out in Austria-Hungary.<br />

Difficulty: die roll 4+.<br />

Enter in play: end of the Events phase, from ‘August 1916’ (turn 20) to the<br />

end of the war, provided the condition is met.<br />

Option #1: (historical choice) Hungary secedes – The collapse of the<br />

Austro-Hungarian monarchy causes the immediate surrender of Imperial<br />

forces!<br />

Notes: once successfully in play, the event is discarded and cannot occur<br />

again.<br />

France<br />

Abandonment of Plan XVI<br />

Description: This event will allow France to abandon the adoption of Plan<br />

XVI in favor of the historical choice for Plan XVII.<br />

Historical notes: Plan XVI planned that the French Army offensive was to<br />

strike at the Vosges and attack in Alsace-Lorraine at once in the early days<br />

of August. But some French generals had realized this would lead to<br />

disaster and were claiming for its immediate cancellation.<br />

Conditions: France has adopted the Plan XVI.<br />

Difficulty: automatic.<br />

Enter in play: end of the Events phase, only during the ‘Early August 1914’<br />

(turn 1).<br />

Option #1: Abandon the Plan XVI – France loses 5 NW points and the<br />

Parliament attitude is shifted by 1 step towards Defeatism.<br />

Option #2: (historical choice) Keep the Plan XVI.<br />

Notes: once successfully in play, the event is discarded and cannot occur<br />

again.<br />

French Marine Corps redeployment<br />

Description: event will allow you to deploy the French Marine Corps in<br />

Belgium or with the BEF or in the French GHQ.<br />

Historical notes: The Fusiliers Marins were special land units of the French<br />

Navy. After the fall of Antwerp, a force of Fusiliers Marines under Admiral<br />

Ronarch, together with a force of 5,000 Belgian troops, successfully<br />

resisted German attacks on the town of Dixmude, one of the principal
