The Game Screen
Interaction Icons
The interaction icons represent the various interactions in which you may engage in
during the game. Actions are context-sensitive, meaning that the icons will appear only
at the appropriate time and/or place (e.g. the Talk icon will only appear when you are
standing next to another person).
Neutral icon: Indicates that no specific action is necessary at this time.
Walk icon: Indicates that you may walk to a particular spot.
Talk icon: Indicates that you may speak with the selected character.
Look icon: Indicates that you may inspect an item more closely.
Take icon: Indicates that you may take an item and add it to your inventory.
Gear icon: Indicates that you may ‘use’ an item from your inventory.
Back icon: Indicates that you may back-out of a close-up view.

Taskbar
At any time during the game, the
Taskbar can be accessed by moving
your cursor to the top right of the
game screen, at which point the
Taskbar will appear.
The Taskbar has the following
options:
Game Menu: This will take you to
the Main Menu.
Inventory: This will display the
contents of your inventory.
Cell Phone: This will allow you to
call upon friends and family to lend a helping hand in solving the case – Even
super-sleuth Nancy Drew!
Character Select Mode: This allows you to choose whether you want to control Frank
or Joe (Single Character Mode) or both Hardys (Dual Character Mode) at the same time.
Travel Map: This will allow you to travel to other locations. Any destinations that are
inaccessible are shaded grey. The Travel Map can also be accessed by clicking on the
Hardys’ motorcycles.
Inventory
During your investigation, you will
come across various objects that you
will need to collect to help you
throughout the game. These objects
will be stored in your Inventory. To
access your Inventory, you will need
to select Inventory from the Taskbar
or by right-clicking the mouse. Your
Inventory will open. When an object
is collected it will automatically be
placed into one of the empty
inventory slots in your Inventory. Use
the arrows of your Inventory to
scroll through the various inventory slots. Within your Inventory you may scroll over an
object and a description will appear.
9

10
Clicking on an item will select the item for use within the game. Since Frank and Joe
can be controlled individually, certain items that Frank or Joe have picked up will not be
accessible by the other character in “Single Character Mode”.
Combining Inventory Objects
There will be times during the game when inventory objects can be combined to create
new items and tools. Within the inventory, one item may be dragged and dropped onto
another to create a new item. Once assembled, an item may also be disassembled.
When a puzzle requires multiple items, you may access your Inventory Menu, select an
item and add it to the game screen. The Gear icon will appear when a puzzle containing
such an action is possible. This may be repeated until all puzzle components have been
added.
The First 10 Minutes of the Game
Previously On The Hardy Boys
The opening comic presents the Hardy Boys in the final moments of their last heroic
adventure. They narrowly escape two thugs breaking down the door and are now back at
home...
Chapter 1 – Business as Usual
After Mrs. Hardy and the A.T.A.C. Agent’s dialogue, open your inventory and double-click
on the package inside revealing the DVD disk which contains information on the Hardy
Boys’ latest mission. Look at the TV stand and inspect the videogame console. Take the
DVD from your inventory and place it in the videogame console. You are then briefed on
your current mission – the theft at Spencer Mansion!
Exit the bedroom and walk into the hallway. Go downstairs and try to sneak past Mrs.
Hardy. She will catch you trying to sneak out and instruct you to go back upstairs. Walk
over to the window at the end of the hallway and watch the short tutorial that explains
how to control Frank and Joe.
Choose Joe from the character icon and listen to the dialogue between Frank and Joe.
Look at the window and click on the large tree so that Joe climbs down and out of the
house. You’re now outside!
Following a short cut-scene, Frank will be back in his bedroom. Select Joe again and
move him near the front door of the house.

At the same time, move Frank near the stairs to the first floor, but do not go down.
Using Joe, ring the doorbell on the left side of the door. As Mrs. Hardy goes to open the
front door, select Frank and run down the stairs to grab the motorcycle keys in the large
bowl at the bottom of the screen. Run Frank back upstairs quickly before Mrs. Hardy sees
him!
Controlling Frank, walk back into the bedroom and click on ‘Playback’ the parrot to pick
him up. Look at the bedroom window beside Playback’s perch and go into your inventory
and give the keys and the parrot to Joe. Select Joe in the character mode and use the
keys that are now in his inventory to open the orange motorcycle compartment. Take the
cell phone located inside the compartment.
With Joe still selected, open the inventory and combine the cell phone with Playback.
Exit the garage and click on the right upper window on the side of the house with your
mouse. After Frank appears in the window, go into your inventory and give the parrot
icon with the cell phone to Frank.
Controlling Frank, approach the TV and look at the power bar on the right side with the
cell phone chargers lying on the floor. Go into your inventory and separate the parrot
and the cell phone by double-clicking on the icon. Select the cell phone from your
inventory and click on a cell phone charger. Listen to the dialogue between Frank and his
father on the phone and then with his mother.
Chapter 2…
Good luck in the rest of your investigation!
