before had a D-21 been exposed to such<br />

conditions!<br />

It proved to be the ideal choice; the D-21<br />

in 4:4:4 format perfectly captured the<br />

depth and scale of the landscape as well<br />

as the glinting ice, the thrilling colours of<br />

icebergs and glaciers, and the enchanting<br />

skyscapes created when the sun sank low<br />

on the horizon. It simply allowed us to<br />

portray the genuine character of the Arctic<br />

and bring it closer to the viewer – this<br />

unique and endangered world that is<br />

home to the white predators.<br />

Everything worked fantastically, including<br />

the initial training at ARRI, the packing<br />

of equipment, the journey to Spitsbergen<br />

and the loading onto our ship – the MS<br />

Hans Fischer<br />

…started as a DoP at Bavarian TV in 1996 and has shot<br />

many documentaries in Germany and around the world<br />

in Asia, Africa, and North America utilizing all common<br />

production formats. In 2002, Hans Fischer was appointed<br />

chief cameraman at Bavarian TV, and as such is responsible<br />

for the technical and artistic achievements of all the<br />

company's camera teams.<br />

Origo. On August 28 th , we left the old<br />

mining estate of Longyearbyen and<br />

traveled northward up the west coast of<br />

Spitsbergen – our adventure had begun!<br />
