Short Story Visual Representation and Analysis Poster Assignment
What is it and who can I work with?
In poster form, create a visual representation of ONE of the four short or children’s stories we’ve
studied this semester (omit “Ironic”)
Groups can be between 2 – 5 members.
What do I include?
On the poster, include ALL of the following (a possible format is suggested on the other side)
- Story Title
- Catchy slogan/grabber/subtitle
- Found Poem, 10 – 15 lines (indicating a possible theme: You must identify the
theme along the bottom of the poem)
- Story Synopsis (summary) – don’t spoil the end though!
- Real-world Application
- Visual Representation
How should it look?
This poster – even the written information - is in a visual form: This means appearance is key.
If a poster looks “messy”, “thrown together” or disorganized, you WILL lose significant marks.
Some ways to make the poster look attractive:
- Type all information
- If cutting information out, use a ruler and cut straight.
- Use larger fonts, since this is to fill a poster
- Use no more than TWO fonts on the poster
- Matte different sections
- Include colour
- DON’T use PEN or PENCIL – only computer ink or marker
How do I get this done in time?
Work diligently. This is a group assignment, but you will need to divide up the work. You can
accomplish this in the following ways:
- Discuss all components of this assignment. Take notes on your ideas.
- Decide who is responsible for each job. (note this on the back on the poster).
- Make sure each of you pre-reads all work to ensure you agree and it is error-free.
- Decide together on the look of this poster.
How will I be assessed?
- Your group will receive a group mark (notice importance of proofreading as a group!)
- Writing: insight of ideas, language quality, effectiveness of form, mechanics (/20).
- Poster: effectiveness of visual representation, organization, attractiveness, detail (/20).
- If title or slogan is not included, project will be deducted 5 marks for each.
- If found poem, visual representation, character sketches, story synopsis, or real-world
application is not included, project will be deducted 10 marks for each.
