Game <strong>the</strong>ory deals with parties (, which can be <strong>in</strong>dividual actors, states or organizations) mak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

choices that <strong>in</strong>fluence each o<strong>the</strong>r's <strong>in</strong>terests. It analyzes <strong>the</strong> available choices <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir possible<br />

outcomes. Game <strong>the</strong>ory has contributed to <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> different models to underst<strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> expla<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> collaboration, <strong>in</strong> an anarchic world, among <strong>in</strong>ternational actors: states <strong>and</strong> IO<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g IGOs. This <strong>the</strong>ory helps to simplify <strong>and</strong> to solve <strong>the</strong> problem faced by <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

actors: <strong>the</strong> rational decision for an <strong>in</strong>dividual actor that can be a state or an IGO. Accord<strong>in</strong>g to<br />

this game <strong>the</strong>ory, sometime governments face pressures at home, <strong>and</strong> thus may not be consistent<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>in</strong>teraction <strong>and</strong> cooperation with <strong>and</strong> with<strong>in</strong> IOs (Gutner & Thompson, 2010). Game<br />

<strong>the</strong>ory has potential to challenge different <strong>the</strong>ories <strong>of</strong> IGOs <strong>and</strong> it is dem<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g more <strong>in</strong>-depth<br />

work on <strong>the</strong> organizational studies: worth <strong>of</strong> IGOs, possible new actors, consequences <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>teractions, maximiz<strong>in</strong>g IGOs‟ importance for each actor.<br />

3.4.5.9 Actor network <strong>the</strong>ory (ANT)<br />

Actor-network <strong>the</strong>ory(ANT) was developed by French scholars, Bruno Latour <strong>and</strong> Michel<br />

Callon. Accord<strong>in</strong>g to this <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>the</strong> people, objects, organizations <strong>and</strong> resources work as actor or<br />

actatns <strong>and</strong> each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m has a specific <strong>role</strong>, place, worth, value <strong>and</strong> weight <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> social<br />

network. Accord<strong>in</strong>g to this <strong>the</strong>ory social <strong>and</strong> technical parts <strong>of</strong> any network are <strong>in</strong>separable. A<br />

smooth function<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> social order, at national <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternational level, can only be achieved<br />

when all actors <strong>in</strong> a network are <strong>in</strong>teract<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> function<strong>in</strong>g properly. In <strong>the</strong> light <strong>of</strong> this <strong>the</strong>ory<br />

IGOs are also important actors <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternational network <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>se bodies can function<br />

effectively once all tangible <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>tangible actors <strong>of</strong> IGOs are present <strong>and</strong> act <strong>in</strong> harmony. ANT<br />

provides an effective platform to critically assess <strong>and</strong> unravel problematic sets <strong>of</strong> explicit <strong>and</strong><br />

implicit assumptions made from <strong>the</strong> management perspective (Monteiro, 1996).
