Executive committee<br />

A conference, congress or assembly may elect an executive body, which may take on permanent<br />

organizational form. These bodies may assume such names as: adm<strong>in</strong>istrative council,<br />

adm<strong>in</strong>istrative board, executive committee, permanent committee, steer<strong>in</strong>g committee or<br />

st<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g committee<br />

3.3.3.5 Secretariat<br />

The permanent body <strong>of</strong> an organization may take on a name derived from an operational ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />

than a policy-mak<strong>in</strong>g or decision-mak<strong>in</strong>g unit: Commonwealth Secretariat, European Space<br />

Agency or Secretariat for Tourism Integration <strong>in</strong> Central America<br />

Term<strong>in</strong>ology, which refer to types <strong>of</strong> activity<br />

An <strong>in</strong>ternational organization may establish one or more activities, which <strong>the</strong>mselves take on<br />

permanent autonomous organizational body. The mode <strong>of</strong> action may be reflected <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> actual<br />

name <strong>of</strong> such organization; dist<strong>in</strong>guish<strong>in</strong>g it from conventional organizations. Such bodies can<br />

be grouped <strong>in</strong>to three ma<strong>in</strong> types: meet<strong>in</strong>g-type events, programs/projects, <strong>and</strong> organizations.<br />

3.3.3.6 Events<br />

A s<strong>in</strong>gle event <strong>of</strong> an organization can be considered as an <strong>in</strong>dependent organization. The life <strong>of</strong><br />

such "organizations" ranges between 1 to 5 years. Events <strong>of</strong> this type <strong>in</strong>clude: meet<strong>in</strong>gs,<br />

exhibitions, shows, contests, games, trade fairs <strong>and</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r events. Examples: World Youth Forum<br />

(UNO), Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games Federation, International Exhibition Bureau<br />

<strong>and</strong> European Association <strong>of</strong> Music Festivals<br />

3.3.3.7 Program or projects<br />

Sometime, due to political or fund<strong>in</strong>g constra<strong>in</strong>s, organizations can be considered as program or<br />

project bound. Such bodies are grouped as program, project, survey, fund, prize etc.<br />
