This study was guided by some research questions that had been framed at <strong>the</strong> beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g. These<br />

What is <strong>the</strong> <strong>role</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> IGOs <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> higher <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> selected <strong>Asian</strong><br />

What different activities are performed by <strong>the</strong> IGOs to support higher <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong> Asia?<br />

How are <strong>the</strong> IGOs contribut<strong>in</strong>g to streng<strong>the</strong>n national capacities <strong>in</strong> higher <strong>education</strong>?<br />

How are <strong>the</strong>se IGOs different <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir approach, functions <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>itiatives <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong><br />

higher <strong>education</strong>?<br />

What is <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> IGOs‟ <strong>in</strong>itiatives for respective <strong>the</strong> selected <strong>countries</strong>?<br />

These questions were transformed <strong>in</strong> to hypo<strong>the</strong>ses <strong>in</strong> order to give a direction to this research.<br />

The detailed study, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>role</strong> <strong>of</strong> UNESCO, OECD <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> World Bank <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong><br />

higher <strong>education</strong>, enabled us to derive result <strong>and</strong> conclusions. The follow<strong>in</strong>g table provides<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation on <strong>the</strong> key <strong>in</strong>dicators that had been used to test <strong>the</strong> hypos<strong>the</strong>ses.<br />
