<strong>in</strong>vestment is <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>the</strong> average <strong>and</strong> as <strong>the</strong> trend l<strong>in</strong>e depict <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> graph that <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> times<br />

to come <strong>the</strong> share <strong>of</strong> <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> World Bank loans will <strong>in</strong>crease fur<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

This <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> share for <strong>education</strong> sector has <strong>in</strong>complete sense without study<strong>in</strong>g its sub-<br />

sectors. Accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> World Bank lend<strong>in</strong>g data on <strong>education</strong> sub-sectors, a record <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Bank‟s <strong>in</strong>vestment was seen <strong>in</strong> 2010 this <strong>in</strong>crease can be attributed to many factors: recent<br />

global f<strong>in</strong>ancial recession pushed <strong>the</strong> <strong>countries</strong> to get loans, <strong>the</strong> Millennium Development Goals<br />

(MDGs) deadl<strong>in</strong>e that is approach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> 2015, ever <strong>in</strong>creas<strong>in</strong>g dem<strong>and</strong> for <strong>education</strong> particularly<br />

at secondary <strong>and</strong> tertiary levels.<br />

5.3.10 The World Bank, higher <strong>education</strong> <strong>and</strong> Asia<br />

Bridg<strong>in</strong>g two extreme ends, though difficult, is not impossible, if <strong>the</strong> gap is reduced <strong>the</strong>n it is<br />

very easy to bridge <strong>the</strong>m. In this world <strong>the</strong>re exist extreme ends <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> distribution <strong>of</strong> wealth: <strong>in</strong><br />

some <strong>countries</strong> per capita <strong>in</strong>come is more than US$100 a day while <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> same world, around<br />

three billion people live on less than $2 a day <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se almost one billion people earn few<br />

cents a day. There is a need to reduce this economic gap as it is fuel<strong>in</strong>g to o<strong>the</strong>r problems<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>education</strong> divide because poverty affects <strong>education</strong> also: more than 100 million
