at this age, <strong>in</strong> most OECD <strong>countries</strong>, students are approach<strong>in</strong>g at <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> compulsory<br />

school<strong>in</strong>g. Consequently PISA estimates <strong>the</strong> level <strong>of</strong> preparation <strong>and</strong> read<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> young<br />

entrants <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitute <strong>of</strong> superior <strong>education</strong> or labor market. While PISA does assess students‟<br />

knowledge, it also exam<strong>in</strong>es <strong>the</strong>ir ability to reflect, <strong>and</strong> to apply <strong>the</strong>ir knowledge <strong>and</strong> experience<br />

to real world issues. So one can say, today PISA is <strong>the</strong> most wide-ranged <strong>and</strong> thorough<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternational program to gauge student performance <strong>and</strong> to collect data on <strong>the</strong> student, family<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutional factors that can help to expla<strong>in</strong> differences <strong>in</strong> student performance.<br />

5.2.5.1.2 Program on Institutional Management <strong>in</strong> <strong>Higher</strong> Education (IMHE)<br />

The Program on Institutional Management <strong>in</strong> <strong>Higher</strong> Education (IMHE) is a unique <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

forum established <strong>in</strong> 1960. Today it has more than 250 member <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>in</strong> 50 <strong>countries</strong>. It<br />

provides strategic analysis <strong>and</strong> advice on <strong>in</strong>stitutional leadership, management, research <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>novation <strong>in</strong> a global knowledge economy, <strong>and</strong> reform <strong>and</strong> governance <strong>in</strong> higher <strong>education</strong>.<br />

IMHE publishes its work <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> major OECD publications. IMHE is renowned for its<br />

conferences, which provide updates on important challenges for HEIs. OECD analysis <strong>of</strong> higher<br />

<strong>education</strong> policy is carried out under <strong>the</strong> auspices <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> IMHE Govern<strong>in</strong>g Board, comprised <strong>of</strong><br />

representatives from Member <strong>in</strong>stitutions.<br />

IMHE is <strong>the</strong> only OECD forum open to higher <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutions. It provides strategic<br />

analysis <strong>and</strong> advice on <strong>in</strong>stitutional leadership, management, research <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>novation <strong>in</strong> a global<br />

With<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> OECD Directorate for Education, IMHE, focuses on a wide range <strong>of</strong> cross-cutt<strong>in</strong>g<br />

issues, address<strong>in</strong>g key challenges faced by OECD member <strong>countries</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> higher<br />
