5.2.3.5 Committees<br />

Along with <strong>the</strong> directorates <strong>the</strong> OECD also has committees, which are responsible for discussion<br />

<strong>and</strong> implementation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> policies, programs <strong>and</strong> projects. At present <strong>the</strong>re are more than 200<br />

committees, work<strong>in</strong>g parities <strong>and</strong> experts groups, which work to carry out <strong>the</strong> programs set by<br />

<strong>the</strong> council. Representatives <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 30 OECD member <strong>countries</strong> meet <strong>in</strong> specialized committees<br />

to advance ideas <strong>and</strong> review progress <strong>in</strong> specific policy areas, such as economics, trade, science,<br />

employment, <strong>education</strong> or f<strong>in</strong>ancial markets. Usually <strong>the</strong>se representatives come from <strong>the</strong><br />

agencies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> member governments <strong>and</strong> br<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> committees both subjects expertise <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

political <strong>in</strong>terests <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir governments (Brosius & Garner, 1997). Accord<strong>in</strong>g to OECD <strong>the</strong>re are<br />

about 40,000 senior <strong>of</strong>ficials from national adm<strong>in</strong>istrations go to OECD committee meet<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

each year to request, review <strong>and</strong> contribute to work undertaken by <strong>the</strong> OECD Secretariat. Once
