UNESCO<br />

Bangkok website facilitates exchange <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation among Member States <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

higher <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutions.<br />

5.1.3.3.3 Teacher Education<br />

It is develop<strong>in</strong>g capacity to improve <strong>the</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> <strong>education</strong> by enhanc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> competencies <strong>of</strong><br />

teachers <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> capacity <strong>of</strong> teacher <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong>stitutions, particularly to encourage <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>corporation <strong>of</strong> <strong>education</strong> for susta<strong>in</strong>able development, values <strong>education</strong>, <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation <strong>and</strong><br />

communication technologies <strong>in</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />

5.1.3.3.4 Technical <strong>and</strong> Vocational Education <strong>and</strong> Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g (TVET)<br />

This is address<strong>in</strong>g emerg<strong>in</strong>g agendas <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Asia-Pacific region, especially <strong>in</strong> relation to three<br />

<strong>the</strong>mes: TVET to address poverty reduction <strong>and</strong> enhance access for marg<strong>in</strong>alized groups;<br />

vocationalization <strong>of</strong> secondary <strong>education</strong> <strong>and</strong> TVET at secondary <strong>and</strong> post-secondary levels; <strong>and</strong><br />

regional qualification frameworks on TVET.<br />

5.1.3.3.5 Information <strong>and</strong> Communication Technologies <strong>in</strong> Education (ICT)<br />

Harness<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> potential <strong>of</strong> ICT for achiev<strong>in</strong>g quality <strong>education</strong> for all by promot<strong>in</strong>g policy-<br />

mak<strong>in</strong>g, st<strong>and</strong>ard sett<strong>in</strong>g, teacher tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, <strong>the</strong> effective use <strong>of</strong> ICT <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

processes <strong>and</strong> knowledge shar<strong>in</strong>g concern<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegration <strong>of</strong> ICT <strong>in</strong> <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> region.<br />

More specifically, <strong>the</strong> activities have four components: regional co-ord<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>in</strong> us<strong>in</strong>g ICT for<br />

literacy <strong>and</strong> for quality <strong>education</strong> for all; <strong>the</strong> streng<strong>the</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> regional knowledge shar<strong>in</strong>g;<br />

capacity development for educators <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> region; <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> technical assistance to Member States<br />

<strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> implement<strong>in</strong>g appropriate national ICT <strong>in</strong> <strong>education</strong> policies. UNESCO has<br />

<strong>in</strong>itiated all it major programs <strong>and</strong> projects for <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> <strong>education</strong> <strong>in</strong> south Asia also;<br />

Millennium development goals, Education for All, universal primary <strong>education</strong>, distant<br />

<strong>education</strong>, UNITWIN <strong>and</strong> UNESCO Chairs etc.
