behalf of the Ballarat FNL 

Board & staff, we welcome 

all new Administrators, 

Coach’s & Players to 

the Red Onion Creative 

Ballarat FNL for the 2013 

season, and a very warm 

welcome back to all current 

players, spectators and 

administrators. 

This year we kick the 

season off with three 

games on Saturday 13th 

April. Sunbury will play 

host to Melton where 

they will unveil their 2012 

Premiership fl ag in their 

fi rst home game of the 

year. The Eastern Lions 

will be looking to begin 

season 2013 just how 

they fi nished last season 

however I’m sure a much 

improved Melton lineup 

will have a bit to say about 

that. Sebastopol will host 

Darley in the season’s 

fi rst dual gate game 

where all senior and junior 

football and netball sides 

will compete at the one 

venue on the same day. 

The Marty Busch Reserve 

has never looked better 

and is well placed to host 

today’s season opener 

against the highly fancied 

Darley side looking for 

their fi rst ever BFNL senior 

premiership. This week’s 

matches will conclude 

with the Melton South FC 

playing host to Bacchus 

Marsh under lights at the 

Melton Recreation Reserve. 

The Panthers will introduce 

several new recruits as 

they take on a Bacchus 

Marsh side sure to include 

some new young faces to 

their line up as well. Both 

newly appointed coaches 

in Matthew Sutton (Melton 

South) and Doug Hawkins 

(Bacchus Marsh) will be 

keen to start their reign 

as Senior Coach with a 

solid victory to commence 

season 2013. 

The 2013 season promises 

to be very exciting, with 

some high quality and 

profi le players joining the 

league. We are also hosting 

some exciting “events” 

in 2013 which include an 

Under 18 Representative 

Game V’s RDFL on 

Wednesday 15th May 

2013, Interleague Netball 

at Under 18 & Senior 

level against the RDFL 

on the same night, Junior 

Representative Program 

(U12, U13, U14, U15 & 

U16.5) for both football and 

netball against the Bendigo 

JFL for Goldfi elds Trophy 

on Saturday 15th June 2013 

that will include our Youth 

Girls representative side 

as well, and the traditional 

Junior Representative 

Program (U12, U13, U14, & 

U16) for football and netball 

against the Geelong JFL 

for the Bob Davis Trophy 

Saturday 6th July 2013. 

Importantly, we will again 

compete in the AFL Victoria 

Country Championship 

Game against the Bendigo 

FL at Eastern Oval on 

Sat 25th May. This is 

particularly exciting 

because the winning 

league from this game 

will progress to a higher 

rank in 2014! This event 

will also feature Under 

18 representative football 

game, and 17 & Under 

& Senior representative 

Netball. 

It has also been a busy 

pre season “off the 

fi eld”. Amongst other 

developments in 2013 we 

have: 

Expanded the Ballarat 

FNL Administrative “Hub” 

staff with the appointment 

of Kara Murray as Netball 

Manager and Shaun Kelly 

as Media, Marketing and 

Events Manager. 

Expanding the Ballarat 

FNL “Youth Girls” football 

competition that was 

introduced in 2011 to 

include another 3 new 

Clubs (Ararat, Darley

to make a 10 team 

competition. 

Expanding the Junior 

Netball competition 

to six grades that will 

be ran in conjunction 

with our Junior football

over 350 girls with an 

opportunity to play netball 

at senior or reserve level 

every weekend.

Bacchus Marsh Football 

Club last night to tie in with

area where 200 guests 

enjoying a fantastic evening 

that featured Collingwood 

stars Nick Maxwell and

Premiership last weekend 

at the Marty Busch Reserve 

in Sebastopol, and we do 

thank the Sebastopol FC 

for the use of this wonderful

BFNL win Central Highlands Regional State League 

Netball Competition 

THE Ballarat FNL are the inaugural 

Central Highlands Regional State 

League netball premiers, defeating 

Eureka in the competition’s Grand 

Final at Wendouree Netball Centre 

on Sunday 24th March. 

After losing their opening Regional 

State League game, the BFNL 

team didn’t miss a beat from then 

on, winning their remaining fi ve 

home-and-away games and a semi 

fi nal against the Maryborough & 

Castlemaine District FNL before 

ending the Cinderella run of 

inter-town rivals Eureka with their 

convincing 52-31 win in the decider. 

The lead-in to the Grand Final wasn’t 

without it’s hiccups though, with star 

defender Erin RIley, who was named 

in the RSL All-Star team and shared 

the BFNL’s Best & Fairest award for 

the tournament with captain Emma 

Burton, badly injuring her left arm in 

a practice match for her club side, 

Redan, in the week leading up to the 

Grand Final. 

Riley’s absence forced a re-shuffl e 

of the line-up with Lake Wendouree’s 

Mel Allen, who had seen most of 

her Regional State League action 

in attack, starting in Riley’s place at 

goal keeper beside Lakers teammates 

Burton at goal defence and 

Molly Boyle at wing defence. 

The BFNL side started slowly with 

Eureka scoring three of the game’s 

opening four goals. Despite only 

having won one home-and-away 

game for the RSL tournament, 

Eureka had pushed the BFNL in 

both of their previous encounters 

and had produced the upset of the 

tournament with their semi-fi nal win 

over the highly fancied Wimmera 

Netball Association, and, as she 

commented in the lead-up to the 

Grand Final, BFNL coach Kate 

McMahon was very much expecting 

Eureka to come out with a “nothing to 

lose” mentality. 

“The sheer lack of fear that [Eureka] 

have I feel gives them the upper 

hand and makes them an extremely 

dangerous opposition”, McMahon 

commented late last week. 

She needn’t have worried though, 

as once her team settled down, they 

quickly erased the defi cit and took 

complete control of the game. Mel 

Allen quickly asserted her authority 

in the defensive half and used her 

height and reach to alter the course 

of many of Eureka’s shots on goal, 

Stacey McCartin, Molly Boyle and 

center court player Hollie Frew 

worked tirelessly to move the ball 

down the court and Georgia Cann 

and Suzy Dalmau fi nished off their 

work. 

Cann, in particular, was automatic 

in front of the net. She converted 

all of her sixteen fi rst-half shots on 

goal, and it wasn’t until the fi fteenminute 

mark of the third quarter that 

she missed her fi rst shot on goal. 

Cann has been referred to as a “big 

game player” throughout the RSL 

tournament, and showed exactly 

why in the Grand Final. Her voice 

on court and calm demeanour must 

be a boost for her teammates, and 

both were on display in the Grand 

Final. 

The BFNL had opened up an eightgoal 

gap at the quarter-time break, 

which had extended to thirteen 

goals by half-time. When the 

BFNL scored the fi rst three goals 

of the quarter to double Eureka’s 

score, the game was all but over 

from that point onwards. The BFNL 

increased their margin to seventeen 

goals at the fi nal break, and fi nished 

the game with a twenty-one goal 

advantage in a dominant display. 

McCartin was deservedly awarded 

the Netball Victoria Best on Court 

Medal, although a case for Cann 

and Allen’s claims to this medal 

could also certainly be argued. 

Both McCartin and Cann, along with 

defenders Emma Burton and Erin 

Riley, were named in the RSL All-Star 

Side, and Burton and McCartin were 

fi nalists for the Netball Victoria RSL 

Most Valuable Player award, which 

was won by Wimmera’s Zoe Heard. 

The BFNL team has now earnt the 

right to compete in the Premier’s 

Challenge tournament, a round-robin 

tournament to be held at Melbourne’s 

State Netball & Hockey Centre on 

Sunday 5th May. The BFNL will play 

against the winners from the other 

Regional State League regions - 

Eastern, Goulburn/North East and 

Western - with the teams placed fi rst 

and second to progress to the fi nal, 

which will be played at HiSense 

Arena that night as a prelude to the 

ANZ Championship match between 

Melbourne Vixens and Central 

Pulse.

Ward named Regional General Manager 

THE AFL Ballarat 

Commission for the newlynamed 

Goldfi elds Region is 

delighted to announce the 

appointment of Rod Ward 

as its inaugural Regional 

General Manager (RGM). 

Mr Ward is well known in 

the Region as the current 

CEO of the Ballarat Football 

Netball League and the 

Ballarat Leagues Club, the 

General Manager of the 

Maryborough Castlemaine 

District Football Netball 

League and General 

Manager of the Riddell 

District Football Netball 

League. 

Mr Ward is also a fourtime 

winner of the VCFL’s 

Administrator of the Year and 

has held senior management 

positions at Telstra. 

AFL VIctoria Goldfi elds 

Commission Chairman Mr 

Tim Bunning said Mr Ward 

has been appointed after 

a thorough and extensive 

interview process. 

“The Commission was very 

impressed with the quality of 

candidates for the role” Mr 

Bunning said. 

“In the end, we found 

that Rod’s professional 

experience in the industry 

and proven track record of 

growing football and netball 

in the area made him the 

outstanding candidate”. 

The position of Regional 

General Manager was 

created after the AFL’s 

2012 review into football 

in Country Victoria found 

that football needs a 

change of governance 

structures to provide greater 

strategic focus, more 

effective decision making 

at a regional level and an 

investment in resources 

directly in regions. 

The Commission which 

was set up for this region in 

late 2012 has now decided 

that this area will adopt 

the name “AFL Victoria 

Goldfi elds”. It is felt that 

the Goldfi elds moniker 

best represented the 

participating organisations 

including the Ballarat 

Football Netball League, the 

Central Highlands Football 

League, the Maryborough 

Castlemaine District Football 

Netball League and the 

Ballarat Football Umpires 

Association. 

Mr Bunning said that as the 

new RGM, Mr Ward’s new 

role will be quite different to 

his current position. 

“Under the new governance 

structure for football in 

this region, each of the 

local leagues will maintain 

their current Boards and 

operations teams” Mr 

Bunning said. 

“Rod’s role will be very 

strategic in nature. He 

will be responsible for 

the implementation and 

management of the direction 

of football in this region 

as established by the 

Commission”. 

Mr Ward said he was 

delighted to be appointed to 

the role and looked forward 

to the challenges ahead. 

“I am very excited to be 

given the opportunity. I 

am really looking forward 

to working with the various 

stakeholders in the 

Goldfi elds Region to grow 

the game”. 

Mr Ward commenced his 

role as the new RGM for 

the Goldfi elds Region on 

Monday 1st April 2013.

V/Line Cup 

MORE than 600 young 

footballers will put their 

abilities to the test this week 

in the 10th annual V/Line Cup. 

The most talented U15 

schoolboys, Youth Girls 

and umpires from across 

regional and rural Victoria will 

converge on Melbourne to 

show their wares against the 

best from other regions. 

For some the V/Line cup 

represents the beginning of 

a football journey, one that 

may eventually lead to an AFL 

career, just as Joel Selwood, 

Patrick Dangerfi eld, Brett 

Delidio and many more have 

done before them. 

Ten graduates from 2009 

V/Line Cup saw their AFL 

dreams come to fruition last 

season with selection in the 

2012 NAB AFL draft. 

Jake Stringer (Bendigo), Ollie 

Wines (Central Murray) Tom 

Clurey (Goulburn Murray), 

Tanner Smith (Wimmera), 

Lewis Pearce (Peninsula), 

Michael Close (South West),

begun their path to the AFL, 

representing their region at 

the 2009 carnival. 

On average about two thirds 

of players from the competing 

regions will move into the 

TAC Cup system over the 

next three years, ensuring the 

carnival’s importance in terms 

of future development. 

For others who participate this 

year, the V/Line Cup will be a 

once-in-a-life time experience 

and provide valuable 

lessons in communication, 

preparation and team unity 

that they can take back to 

their local clubs. 

The 2013 V/Line Cup sees 

20 schoolboy teams compete 

across three divisions with 

grand fi nals and minor 

fi nals providing an exciting 

culmination to a very busy 

week for players, coaches, 

offi cials and umpires. 

Each year rivalries between 

regions continue to blossom 

with Latrobe, Frankston 

Peninsula Stingrays, 

Sunraysia and the Ballarat 

Youth Girls team back to 

defend their titles won in 

2012. 

For the fi rst time a team from 

the GWS academy will also 

take part, giving young NSW 

boys the opportunity to test 

their credentials against the 

best from country Victoria. 

While in Melbourne, the teams 

are also taken to visit a range 

of elite facilities, listen to 

guest speakers, and visit AFL 

clubs as they observe what 

it takes to succeed at the top 

level. 

These insights into the 

professional nature of 

the sport are crucial and 

extremely diffi cult to receive 

in their country region. 

For WorkSafe AFL Victoria 

Country the V/Line Cup 

is a great reminder of the 

importance of putting energy 

and time into developing 

young players, coaches and 

umpires. 

The Youth Girls Country 

Championship is once again 

being played in conjunction 

with the V/Line Cup. 

The competition continues 

to fl ourish with the rivalry 

between Ballarat and 

Geelong intensifying every 

year and the improvement 

in Bendigo and Hampden 

always signifi cant. 

Female participation 

continues to grow rapidly and 

so do to the opportunities for 

talented females to progress 

through the talent pathway. 

Finally a huge thanks must 

go to V/Line, which has been 

a tremendous partner of the 

carnival over the past 10 

years.

integral part in giving young 

boys and girls the opportunity 

to compete at representative 

level and get a taste of the

Introducing new BFNL Staff 

THE Red Onion Creative Ballarat 

Football Netball League is 

delighted to announce the 

appointment of three new staff 

members over the off-season 

period to assist in the delivery of 

administration and services to the 

league under the banner of the 

Ballarat Administration Hub. 

Kara Murray has been appointed 

to the newly created position of 

Netball Manager, servicing the 

Riddell District FNL, the Ballarat 

FNL and the Maryborough & 

Castlemaine District FNL. 

Kara, who has a Bachelor 

of Applied Science (Sports 

Management), has extensive 

professional experience with 

Hockey Australia, AFL and AFL 

Publishing (now AFL Media), 

along with running her own 

Administration Services Company. 

Importantly, Kara also has vast 

experience in Netball as a player, 

coach and administrator. 

Kara is married with 3 young 

children and lives in Gisborne 

and she will work jointly between 

the Ballarat FNL offi ce at Saxon 

House and RDFL Headquarters in 

Sunbury. 

Kara’s role will see her work 

closely and under the guidance of 

the Netball President & Executive 

of each league to manage the 

operations of all Junior (Under 

Age) and Senior (incorporating 

A, B and C Grade) Netball 

competitions for all leagues 

according to league By Laws and 

Netball Victoria regulations. 

Kara has already been 

instrumental in implementing the 

BFNL’s new administration system, 

MyNetball, as well as preparing 

the BFNL’s Interleague netball 

campaigns for the 2013 season 

Shaun Kelly has been appointed 

to the newly created position 

of Media, Marketing & Events 

Manager, servicing the Ballarat 

FNL, the Riddell District FNL and 

the Maryborough & Castlemaine 

District FNL. 

Shaun, who has a Bachelor of 

Business (Marketing/International 

Trade), has come from 

Queensland Cricket, where he 

looked after corporate hospitality 

sales and general ticketing for 

international cricket matches held 

at The Gabba in Brisbane. Prior 

to this, Shaun spent seven years 

with the Eastern Football League’s 

media team calling football on 

radio and providing print articles 

each weekend across the football 

season. 

Shaun, who grew up in Portland 

and went to school in Hamilton, is 

pleased to move back “home” to 

Victoria with his wife Sarah. 

Shaun will be responsible for the 

recruitment, management and 

administration of all sponsorship 

and partnership programs for the 

leagues within the Ballarat “Hub”, 

and oversee and manage all 

Commercial and key stakeholder 

Agreements & promotions. Shaun 

will also oversee Communications 

& Media – including Social Media, 

maintain and further develop each 

league’s Website, including the 

creation of “chat Forums” – and 

moderate such forums. 

Rhiannon Banner has been 

appointed as the Riddell District 

FNL trainee for season 2013. 

Rhiannon comes to the RDFNL 

as part of the AFL Sports Ready 

program. Rhiannon is a well 

known and very accomplished 

sportsperson in the western region 

having been named All Australian 

for Women’s Football in 2011, 

awarded the Victorian School 

Sports Award in 2010 for Football 

and a top 10 placing in the 2012 

Eva Peers Medal. 

Additionally Rhiannon has played 

high level Netball, Cricket and 

Hockey and has a well rounded 

knowledge of Football and Netball 

at local level having grown up 

around the Melton South Junior 

and Senior Football Clubs. Having 

recently completed VCE Rhiannon 

can add experience working at 

AFL Sports Ready in 2011 to her 

credentials. 

Rhiannon will be based at the 

Riddell District FL in Sunbury to 

work for the Riddell District FL 

in conjunction with the Regional 

General Manager, the RDFL 

Operations Manager and the 

Riddell District FL Board to assist 

with the administration of football 

/ netball within the Riddell District 

FL. 

Rhiannon commenced her position 

in early January, with Kara and 

Shaun starting in early Febrruary.

BFLNA Netball Report BFNL Netball Manager Kara Murray 

WELCOME to the 2013 

BFLNA Netball season 

which promises to be 

another successful and 

highly competitive year with 

a greater number of affi liated 

teams across all grades. 

I’d like to introduce myself, 

my name is Kara Murray 

and I started as the BFLNA, 

BFNLNA and MCDFNL 

Netball Manager in early 

February, 2013. I have 

been involved in Netball 

both playing (including a 

small junior stint in Ballarat) 

and coaching for the past 

30 years and have worked 

professionally in sports 

administration over the past 

15 years. 

In March 2013 Netball 

Victoria selected the BFLNA 

as an early adopter league 

for the My Netball IT system. 

We are one of only 20 

Association/Leagues trialling 

the system before it’s nation 

wide roll out in 2014. It will 

be a great time saving tool 

for all the netball volunteers, 

superseding many streams 

of paperwork and enabling 

the clubs to keep thorough 

statistical records and data. 

The Senior Interleague 

schedule for 2013 has the 

BFLNA playing Bendigo 

FL in Ballarat on Saturday, 

May 25th and the RDFNL 

on Wednesday, May 15th in 

Sunbury. This year we will 

also have junior Interleague 

scheduled for June 15th , 

Goldfi elds Trophy against 

BendigoFL in Ballarat 

and the Bob Davis Trophy 

against Football Netball 

Geelong in Geelong. It’s an 

exciting time for our juniors 

with their fi rst chance to play 

representative netball for the 

BFLNA. We will be fi nalising 

our junior netball coaching 

appointments and squads 

soon. Club nominations are 

currently being collated and 

selections and training will 

begin in the coming weeks. 

The Ballarat FNL entered 

both an Open and a 17 and 

Under team in the Central 

Highlands Regional State 

League netball competition 

over the summer months 

with great success. Our 17 

and Under side, coached 

by Bacchus Marsh A Grade 

coach Frank Pawlowicz, 

made it as far as the semifi 

nals and were extremely 

impressive, with Lake 

Wendouree’s Nina Cowie 

and Melton South’s Monique 

Clark sharing Best and 

Fairest honours. Our Open 

side lost only one game 

throughout the tournament 

on their way to winning the 

inaugural Central Highlands 

Regional State League 

Championship - a fantastic 

achievement for coach Kate 

McMahon and the girls 

Our Central Highlands 

Regional State League 

champion team will continue 

their RSL campaign at the 

Premiers Challenge day on 

May 5th where they’ll play 

against the other Region 

winners in a round robin 

tournament at the State 

Netball Hockey Centre 

with the fi nal being played 

as a curtain raiser for the 

Melbourne Vixens v Pulse at 

Hisense Arena. This will be 

an exciting day for all BFLNA 

personnel. Contratulations 

girls for making it this far and 

good luck for your big day 

on the 5th May in Melbourne.

volunteered their time for this 

competition. Your extreme 

hard work and dedication 

has clearly provided with 

BFLNA with great success 

and a wonderful start to our 

2013 Interleague campaign.

introductions that the BFLNA

passionate and hard working

Melton South Panther’s Record 

We welcome all to another year of 

Panther football. Like all clubs at this 

time of year, we are fi lled with a lot of 

excitement and promise of what lies 

ahead in2013. We have had some 

signifi cant off fi eld changes for this 

year that we hope will bring success 

to the club, starting today against 

our local neighbour, Bacchus Marsh. 

We welcome all of our new players 

to Melton South and wish them well 

for many seasons ahead and we also 

welcome all of the Bacchus Marsh 

supporters and players to the Panther 

Den today. 

In a Buckley/ Malthouse transition, 

Mathew Sutton has taken over from 

Shane Geddes as senior football 

coach. Last year’s coach, Shane 

Geddes has agreed to stay on board as 

Football Manager and unlike Malthouse, 

Shane hasn’t packed up and left and 

this is great news for the club. 

Netball wise, Bon Tai has taken over 

the reins and brought a great amount 

of professionalism to our training. With 

Jill Van Der Ross as a playing assistant

Netball division is looking to grow and 

strengthen this year. Lots more wins 

for the girls should become the norm 

in 2013 which will please everyone in 

the club. 

On a sadder note, during the off-season 

the club lost a number of people. Our 

sympathises go out to the families of Bill 

Wright (ex President), Maureen Rodda 

(mother of former coach and player 

Paul Rodda) and Ryan Waldie, who 

tragically passed in a road accident last 

week. To all of the loved ones of these 

people, the Panther family are thinking 

of you. 

We have a larger committee this year, 

with Peter Earl taking over for the 4th 

time as president of the club. With Mick 

Laffi n stepping up to Vice President 

we have an excellent and experienced 

executive taking the club forward. 

Exciting times at the den include the 

electronic scoreboard, which should be 

completed by the end of May in a major 

joint exercise with the Juniors, Auskick 

and cricket clubs. 

Can we please push people to joint 

the Coterie 500 club. Without boosting 

membership in this coterie, as a club 

we will not be able to continue to 

improve the infrastructure and playing 

list. Whilst $500 sounds signifi cant, it 

is great value and more importantly, 

you are making an important fi nancial 

contribution to your club so get on 

board!

The Bacchus Marsh Football Club Inc

The big news in the off season was 

the appointment of Footscray legend 

Doug Hawkins as Senior Coach. This 

has created a real buzz around the 

club and we hope it will translate 

into big crowds eager to watch and 

listen to The Hawk. Rick Millar has 

been reappointed Reserves Coach 

and we welcome Chris Griffi ths to 

senior coaching ranks as our U18.5 

coach. Chris has previously coached 

at club and interleague level in the 

junior division. Frank Pawlowicz and 

Katie Willams continue on as netball 

coaches with Frank in charge of A, B, 

and C and Katie coaching the U18.5’s. 

We would like to congratulate our 

captains for this year – Katie Williams, 

Jenna Herring, Sarah McGuigan, Gaby 

Mayne, Tyson Shea, Matt Muscat, and 

Ricky Hawkins. 

The footballers are fi t (super fi t in 

some cases) and raring to go after 

an extensive pre-season campaign 

topped off by a couple of practice 

matches. A number of players 

have joined the club and, with the 

graduation of quite a few of last year’s 

U18.5 players, the club is looking to 

these players to help achieve a better 

overall result this year. 

The netballers have been training hard 

and with a number of practice matches 

behind them are eagerly awaiting the 

start of the season. A, B, and C will be 

looking to at least repeat last year’s 

efforts of fi nals participation and the 

U18.5’s will be trying hard to climb up 

the ladder this year. 

Memberships: Supporters are 

encouraged to help the club by 

purchasing a membership for season 

2013. A range of membership options 

are available – please refer to our 

website

Social News: Meals are available in the 

clubrooms on Thursday nights – bar 

opens at 6:00 pm. All members are 

invited to attend for a great meal and 

a refreshing drink while they listen to 

team selections.

Hollywood Cocktail Party on Saturday, 

April 23 at the clubrooms starting at 

7:30 pm.

A WARM welcome to all umpires, 

clubs and supporters for season 


This season is shaping up to 

be another fantastic one for 

all involved. I’m sure everyone 

associated with clubs have 

been eagerly awaiting the 

commencement of the season, 

just as the umpires have been. 

The Ballarat Football Umpires 

Association (BFUA) has a new 

look coaching staff for 2013. The 

Senior Field Umpire coaches 

are Simon Harrison and Rick 

McCluskey, the Boundary 

Umpire coach is Brian Ryan, 

the Goal Umpire coach is Rhys 

Brehaut and Phil McGrath is the 

Junior Development coach. All 

coaches have been putting in 

plenty of hard work in the lead

Our newly appointed Field 

Umpire Coach Simon Harrison 

joins the BFUA with a wealth of 

umpiring experience. Simon has 

previously worked with AFL/NSW 

and has a long history of working 

with elite and up and coming 

umpires. Simon will be a terrifi c 

acquisition for the group and has 

already had a profound impact in 

the short time that he has been 

in his new role.

umpires in the Ballarat Football 

League Senior and Junior 

competitions, Central Highlands 

FL competitions, Maryborough 

Castlemaine District FL 

competitions and the Ballarat FL

The BFUA will continue to use 

the side building at the City Oval 

Bowling Club as its social base. 

It is a fantastic spot and the 

BFUA encourage all umpires to 

attend the venue after training on 

Wednesday nights where food 

and refreshments will be on sale.

979fm’s sports show “Back Of The Net” are joining the broadcast team. Plus at 1:30 Len Baker from “Harness 

Review” reports in with his tips for that Saturday’s harness racing.
