Joseph, 6th May, 1702, married 1725, Mary Otis <strong>of</strong> Scituate, had<br />

a son Joseph Oct. 4, 1738, probably died young, the father died<br />

Sept. 9, 1738, the mother March 21, 1738-9; 3, Mary, 25th Feb.<br />

1703-4, married Dea. Gershom Davis Sept. 23, 1731 ; 4, Samuel,<br />

24th Feb. 1705-6, died early ; 5, Thankful, 9th June, 1708, married<br />

James Davis Dee. 2, 1727. She died Aug. 24, 1745, leaving<br />

seven children, the father being also deceased, the children were<br />

brought up by their grandfather Hinckley ; 6, Abigail, 30th<br />

Oct. 1710, married Mr. John Dillingham <strong>of</strong> Harwich Jan. 3, 1742,<br />

she died Sept. 9, 1749, leaving a daughter Mehitabel ; 7, Elizabeth,<br />

4th Jan. 1712-13 ; 8, Hannah, 10th June, 1715 ; 9, John,<br />

16th Nov. 1717, called junior. He resided in the ancient brick<br />

house that belonged to Henry Bourne, and was subsequently occupied<br />

by Rev. Thomas Walley and the Russels, as a parsonage.<br />

He married Jan. 24, 1744-5, Bethia Freeman, and had eight children<br />

: 1, Joseph, Nov. 10, 1745, died Nov. 21, 1745 ; 2, Bethia,<br />

Aug. 25, 1747, died Feb. 23, 1775 ; 3, Marv, Aug. 9, 1749, died<br />

April 2, 1820 ; 4, Elizabeth, April 9, 1752"; 6, John, Oct. 15,<br />

1754, called "Brick John" to distinguish him from "Farmer John,"<br />

and because he lived in the ancient brick house, he married Dec.<br />

4, 1778, Hannah Ide <strong>of</strong> Rehobeth, and was the father <strong>of</strong> the late<br />

Isaac Hinckley and others ; 6, Freeman, June 27, 1757, he was a<br />

^silver smith, married Sabra Hatch <strong>of</strong> Falmouth May 17, 1771.<br />

He died early leaving no issue, and his widow became the fourth<br />

wife <strong>of</strong> John Thacher ; 7, James, April 2, 1760 ; and Sarah Oct.<br />

28, 1763. 6, Isaac, born 31st Oct. 1719, Harvard College 1740,<br />

was a classmate <strong>of</strong> Samuel Adams and other distinguished men.<br />

He resided at West <strong>Barnstable</strong> in the house which was his<br />

father's. During the Revolution he was an active patriot. He<br />

was many years town clerk, and one <strong>of</strong> the selectmen <strong>of</strong> the town.<br />

He died Dee. 1802, aged 83 years. He married Dec. 18, 1748,<br />

Hannah Bourne, and had 1, Richard, Oct. 29, 1749 ; 2, Hannah,<br />

March 25, 1751 ; 3, Abigail, Feb. 13, 1753 ; 4, Joseph, March 6,<br />

1755; 5, Elizabeth, April 30, 1757; 6, Isaac, June 18, 1760, an<br />

enterprising shipmaster, removed to Hingham and has descendants<br />

; 7, Charles, Nov. 1, 1762; and 8, Eunice, July 14, 1765.<br />

(33.) Isaac Hinckley, son <strong>of</strong> the second Samuel, born 20th<br />

Aug. 1674, resided at West <strong>Barnstable</strong> for a time. He married<br />

for his first wife, June 6, 1712, Mrs. Elizabeth Gookin, <strong>of</strong> Sherborn.<br />

She was the daughter <strong>of</strong> the Rev. Mr. Gookin, and was<br />

born 20th May, 1690, and was sixteen years younger than her<br />

husband. There is no record <strong>of</strong> his family on the town books or<br />

settlement <strong>of</strong> his estate on the probate records. He was <strong>of</strong> <strong>Barnstable</strong><br />

in 1703, and after that his name disappears.<br />

(36.) Ebenezer Hinckley, son <strong>of</strong> the second Samuel, born<br />

Aug. 2, 1685, resided in the East Parish, and owned nearly all<br />

the ancient Allen estate. He married for his first wife Mrs.
