Rachel £140 to be paid to her when <strong>of</strong> age, and a copy <strong>of</strong> Mr.<br />

Flavel's works; to his son Ebenezer £160 when <strong>of</strong> age, and the<br />

"three biggest books" mentioned in my father's will, his gun,<br />

sword and iron back. The balance <strong>of</strong> his property, about £300,<br />

he devises to his wife Mary, who married Nov. 5, 1722, John<br />

George. His children were<br />

65. I. Rachel, born in <strong>Barnstable</strong> Nov. 1, 1707, married May<br />

27, 1742, Samuel Spear, Jr.<br />

66. II. Ebenezer, born in Braintree March 14, 1713, married<br />

July 11, 1732, (aged 19?) Hannah Nightingale, whom he<br />

survived. He was a shipmaster, and according to tradition<br />

died in the West Indies. He left seven children. 1, Ebenezer,<br />

who married Ann Morton, a sister <strong>of</strong> the Hon. Perez<br />

Morton, and had Joseph, who married his cousin Abigail<br />

Hinckley ; John, who settled in Albany and had eight children<br />

; Lucy, who married Isaac Prescott ; Anna, unmarried<br />

; Sophia, married John D. Howard, Jr., <strong>of</strong> Boston;<br />

and Herman, unmarried. 2d, Thomas was a shipmaster,<br />

settled at first in Wellfleet and afterwards removed to Boston.<br />

He married Susannah Hewes <strong>of</strong> Wrentham. He died<br />

aged 34 during the Revolution, leaving a widow and four<br />

children, some <strong>of</strong> whom were born in Wellfleet. 3d, John<br />

was an auctioneer in Boston and a member <strong>of</strong> the Ancient<br />

and Honorable Artillery Company in 1772. He married<br />

Abigail Kneeland <strong>of</strong> Boston, and had Abigail who married<br />

her cousin Joseph, and had no children ; Mary married Edward<br />

Church, merchant <strong>of</strong> Boston, and died Nov. 1858,<br />

aged 87 ; John, who died unmarried in 1855 at Andover ;<br />

Sophia, Harriet and Eliphalet, died young. 4th, Eliphalet,<br />

a mariner, died unmarried. 5th, Mary, died unmarried<br />

Hannah, died unmarried ; and Nancy, who married Benjamin<br />

Gorham.<br />

(30.) Benjamin Hinckley, son <strong>of</strong> the second Samuel, resided<br />

at West <strong>Barnstable</strong> on a part <strong>of</strong> the Hinckley farm. I find<br />

no settlement <strong>of</strong> his estate on the probate records. He was living<br />

in 1745, aged 79. He married 27th Dec. 1686, Sarah, daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> James Cobb. He had nine children, five the record says<br />

"dyed," and their names and ages are not recorded, neither do<br />

they appear on the church records.<br />

67. I. Benjamin, 18th July 1694, married Nov. 2, 1716, Abigail,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Joseph Jenkins. He died in 1745, leaving<br />

an estate apprised at £920,13,6. His homestead at West<br />

<strong>Barnstable</strong> was valued at £380, but the currency was then<br />

depreciated, a yoke <strong>of</strong> oxen being valued at £30, about<br />

double their value fifty years before. He had a family <strong>of</strong><br />

eleven children born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>, namely : 1, Abigail, born
