Dec. 14, 1725, aged 66. He married Nov. 16, 1743, for his<br />

second wife Bethia Smith. He died ia 1748, aged 76.<br />

27. XV. Thankful, 20th Aug. 1671, married 12th Nov. 1675,<br />

Rev. Experience Mayhew, <strong>of</strong> Martha's Vineyard, teacher <strong>of</strong><br />

the Indians there, and the author <strong>of</strong> several books in relation<br />

to them. She was the mother <strong>of</strong> a most remarkable family<br />

<strong>of</strong> children ; namely : Joseph, Harvard College 1730 ; Nathan,<br />

Harvard College 1731 ; Lecariah, a missionary to the<br />

Indians who died 6th March, 1806, aged 88 ; and Jonathan,<br />

Harvard College 1744, one <strong>of</strong> the most distinguished divines<br />

<strong>of</strong> the country.<br />

28. XVI. Ebenezer, 23d Sept. 1673. (See act. below.)<br />

29. XVII. Reliance, 15th Dec. 1675, baptized Dec. 19, 1675,<br />

being on that Sunday <strong>of</strong> the great Narraganset Swamp<br />

fight. The father was an <strong>of</strong>ficer in Capt. Gorham's company,<br />

and Rev. Mr. Russell, the minister, gave the name.<br />

She married 15th Dec. 1698, Rev. Nathaniel Stone <strong>of</strong> Harwich,<br />

and was the mother <strong>of</strong> twelve children.<br />

Samuel Hinckley, son <strong>of</strong> Samuel, resided on his father's estate<br />

at West <strong>Barnstable</strong>. He was a farmer. He married 14th<br />

Dec. 1664, for his first wife, Mary, daughter <strong>of</strong> Roger Goodspeed.<br />

She died Dec. 20, 1666, aged 22, and he married Jan. 15, 1668-9,<br />

Mary, daughter <strong>of</strong> Edward Fitzrandolphe. He died intestate Jan.<br />

2, 1726-7, aged 84, and his estate was divided on the 31st <strong>of</strong> the<br />

same month, by a mutual agreement between his four sons, Benjamin,<br />

Joseph, Isaac, Ebenezer and Thomas, who appear to have<br />

been all the surviving heirs. His widow signs her name as<br />

"Elizabeth Bursley," wife <strong>of</strong> John B.<br />

Children horn in <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

John Hinckley, son <strong>of</strong> Samuel, resided at West <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

He was a man <strong>of</strong> some note, <strong>of</strong>ten employed in town affairs, and<br />

ensign <strong>of</strong> the militia company, an <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> honor in his day. He<br />

married for his first wife July 1668, Bethia Lothrop. She was a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> the church, but does not appear to have been an exemplary<br />

sister. She died 10th July, 1697, and he married Nov.<br />

24th, 1697, for his second wife, Mary Goodspeed.<br />

Children <strong>of</strong> Ensign John Hinckley horn in <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

June, 1721.
