iel; the eldest sou <strong>of</strong> his son Joseph; to Nathaniel he<br />

gave property that was his Grandmother Joyce's, and<br />

his lands in Middleboro'. He names his daughter-iu-law<br />

Joannah, perhaps wife <strong>of</strong> Nathaniel, who removed to<br />

Windham, Conn., and his daughter Euth Basset. He<br />

gives certain property unto six <strong>of</strong> his children, Mary<br />

Mulford, Samuel Basset, Hannah Covell, Joseph Basset,<br />

Sarah Nickerson and Nathan Basset, Mr. Thomas<br />

Mulford <strong>of</strong> Truro, and his son Joseph <strong>of</strong> Yarmouth,<br />

Executors. Estate appraised at £228,11. One <strong>of</strong> the<br />

oldest monuments in the Yarmouth grave-yard is that<br />

<strong>of</strong> Dorcas Basset, who died June 9, 1707, aged 31.<br />

She was probably a daughter <strong>of</strong> Nathaniel. Though<br />

William is first named in the will, he was probably the<br />

youngest son.<br />

IV. Sarah, born about 1630, married in 1648, Peregrine<br />

\^'hite <strong>of</strong> Marshfield, the first born <strong>of</strong> the English at<br />

Cape Cod Harbor, Nov. 1620. Her third son Jonathan,<br />

born June 4, 1658, is the ancestor <strong>of</strong> the White<br />

<strong>families</strong> in Yarmouth.<br />

His other children named aie Euth, who married John<br />

Sprague, 1655; Jane; Joseph, who settled with his father<br />

in Bridgewater, married Martha Hobart, 1677, and died<br />

1712. He had Joseph, William, Elnathan, Jeremiah, Lydia,<br />

Euth and Elizabeth. The posterity <strong>of</strong> Joseph are numerous.<br />

William, son <strong>of</strong> Nathaniel, married Feb. 23, 1710,<br />

Martha Godfrey, and had Isaac, July 17, 1711 ; Moses,<br />

Nov. 4, 1713 ; Fear, April 12, 1716, who married Joseph<br />

Eogers <strong>of</strong> Harwich, Oct. 19, 1737. His second wife was<br />

Sarah Jenkins <strong>of</strong> <strong>Barnstable</strong>, to whom he was married<br />

Jan'y 30, 1722-3. He and his wife Sarah were dismissed<br />

from the Yarmouth to the <strong>Barnstable</strong> Church, Aug. 1727.<br />

His children recorded as born in <strong>Barnstable</strong> are Samuel,<br />

Aug. 21, 1724; Experience, May 5, 1727; Mary, May 18,<br />

1729, and Nathaniel, Sept. 4, 1732. Only the two last<br />

were baptized in <strong>Barnstable</strong>. He had probably another son,<br />

William, born in Yarmouth, who married May 8, 1741,<br />

Margaret Merryfield. The Bassets <strong>of</strong> West <strong>Barnstable</strong> are<br />

descendants <strong>of</strong> William, son <strong>of</strong> Nathaniel, and <strong>of</strong> Samuel <strong>of</strong><br />

Yarmouth, a great-grandson <strong>of</strong> Col. William <strong>of</strong> Sandwich.<br />

This Samuel married June 15, 1743, Susannah Lumbard <strong>of</strong>
