age he set out an orchard, and lived to gather the fruit many<br />

years. His children born in Yarmouth were :<br />

89. I. Ruth, 18th Sept. 1743, married Eben Howes.<br />

90. II. A son, 7th Sept. 1745, died 15th <strong>of</strong> same month.<br />

91. III. Edward, 6th April, 1747, married Sarah Hedge, and<br />

had Nathan, Dec. 10, 1768; Ansel, Nov. 1, 1770; Hannah,<br />

March 16, 1773; Olive, April 16, 1775 ; Betty, Aug. 2,<br />

1777, died young; Betty, Nov. 2, 1779, married John<br />

Eldridge; Edw. Bangs March 16, 1782; Sally, June 18,<br />

1784 ; and Nancy Jan. 4, 1787. The father <strong>of</strong> this family<br />

died aged 49, but his children were all long-lived, and he has<br />

numerous descendants.<br />

92. IV. Ebenezer, 22d May, 1750. He was a farmer, and was<br />

one <strong>of</strong> the first contractors to carry a weekly mail to Boston.<br />

(See Thacher.) His children were : Lot, Oct. 17,<br />

1777; Catte, Feb. 4, 1780; Ann, April 13, 1783 ; Ebenezer,<br />

May 22, 1785 ; Matthews C, May 25, 1787; Elizabeth,<br />

Feb. 4, 1790; Lucy, March 21, 1795; and Randall, Jan.<br />

24,1799. All are now deceased excepting Elizabeth, wife<br />

<strong>of</strong> Charles Sears, Esq.<br />

93. IV. Bette, 17th March, 1752.<br />

94. V. Lucy, 4th July, 1754, died Sept. 6, 1765.<br />

95. VI. A son, 13th Oct. 1758, died Nov. 24, 1758.<br />

96. VII. A son, 23d June, 1759, died July 25, 1759.<br />

97. VIII. Elizabeth, 23d March, 1764, married Eben Whelden.<br />

98. IX. Lucy, 20th Jan. 1768, married Johu Eldridge.<br />

41. Jonathan HaUett, son <strong>of</strong> Dea. Jonathan, married<br />

Thankful Crowell. By mistake she took rats-bane instead <strong>of</strong><br />

salts, and died in six hours. He died Feb. 6, 1814 ; aged 90<br />

years. His children were: Lydia, born 11th Aug. 1745, married<br />

Josiah Miller ; Thankful, 16th Sept. 1747, married Barnabas<br />

Hedge and removed to Maine ; Howes, 21st July, 1749, married<br />

Temperance Hedge; Jonathan, 13th June, 1751, married Sarah<br />

Hedge; Azuba, 4th Dec. 1752, married Ansel Taylor ; Solomon,<br />

23d Nov. 1754, married Deborah Chapman and removed to Kennebec,<br />

Maine ;<br />

Elisha, married Elizabeth Hawes Oct. 15, 1779, removed<br />

to Kennebec; Isaiah, 10th Aug. 1762, died <strong>of</strong> small pox<br />

in Boston harbor—left no issue ; Zenas, 9th Aug. 1768, married<br />

Lydia HaUett ; and Josiah, 27th Aug. 1765, married Elizabeth<br />

Matthews.<br />

Howes HaUett <strong>of</strong> this family was, in 1789, skipper <strong>of</strong> a new<br />

fishing vessel, owned principally by a Mr. Evans <strong>of</strong> Providence,<br />

R. I. She was lost in a gale on Nantucket Shoals, and all on<br />

board perished, namely : Howes HaUett, master, Josiah HaUett,<br />

Daniel HaUett, Edmond Hallett, Levi HaUett, Joseph HaUett, Josiah<br />

MUlef and Moody Sears.
