Mercy, born Jan'y 27, 1734-5, baptized Feb. 2,<br />

1734-5. She died unmarried March 29,' 1765 ; Simeon,<br />

born July 26, 1736, died March 21, 1740;<br />

Desire, born May 20, 1738 ; she was never married,<br />

lived in the house with her brother Isaac, in which<br />

she had a life estate. She died March 2, 1811<br />

Mary, born Aug. 23, 1740. married Joseph Bavis.-<br />

VI. Isaac, born March 29, 1699, married Hannah Stevens.<br />

He removed to Provincetown where he died<br />

in 1730, leaving a daughter Mary, and a posthumous<br />

child, born after the death <strong>of</strong> the father.<br />

VII. Solomon, born April 3, 1701, married July 16, 1726,<br />

Hannah Capron, a Tiehobeth name. He was a physician<br />

and resided some time in <strong>Barnstable</strong>. Whether<br />

he removed or died young, I am unable to say. I<br />

have a memorandum that he had a daughter Sarah,<br />

who died April 11, 1775, aged 20.<br />

VIII. Judah, born Dec. 9, 1703. I do not find that he left<br />

issue.<br />

Nathaniel Bacon, including the male and female lines,<br />

is the ancestor <strong>of</strong> a very large proportion <strong>of</strong> the eminent<br />

men <strong>of</strong> Cape Cod. The sketch which I have givein, is only<br />

an outline. There are an abundance <strong>of</strong> materials for an in-<br />

teresting, useful and popular work, and I hope the author <strong>of</strong><br />

the Sears' Memorial will deem it a subject worthy <strong>of</strong> his<br />

eloquent pen.<br />

The descendants <strong>of</strong> Jeremiah Bacon did not inherit the<br />

business talents for which the other branches <strong>of</strong> the Bacon<br />

family were distinguished. Some <strong>of</strong> them were noted for<br />

their pleasant humor and ready wit. The saying <strong>of</strong> Nathaniel,<br />

brother <strong>of</strong> the second Oris, are <strong>of</strong>ten repeated in the<br />

neighborhood where he resided. He married a granddaughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> William Blatchford, and his wife Elizabeth, the<br />

reputed witch. He was a poor man, had a large family,<br />

and died at the Almshouse in <strong>Barnstable</strong>. At first he resided<br />

near the late Mr. Ebenezer Sturgis, afterwards in a<br />

small house, at a distance from neighbors. On a cold,<br />

stormy winter's day, when the roads were blocked by drifts<br />

<strong>of</strong> snow, he sat in his comfortable room, while Mr. Sturgis<br />

and his sons were out watering and taking care <strong>of</strong> their large<br />

stock <strong>of</strong> cattle. Nathaniel remai-ked : "I am thankful that<br />

I do not own that stock <strong>of</strong> cattle ; Sally and I have been
