George Lewis Gorham resided in the house which his father<br />

purchased <strong>of</strong> Capt. William Davis. He married March 25, 1784,<br />

Phebe, daughter <strong>of</strong> Joseph Davis, and for his second wife her sister<br />

Mary, then only 16. After the death <strong>of</strong> Mr. Gorham she<br />

married Dea. Joseph Hawes <strong>of</strong> Yarmouth, whom she survived.<br />

His children were: 1, Phebe, born Feb. 8, 1785, married James<br />

Childs ; 2, Nathaniel, Oct. 9, 1789, married Hannah Gorham<br />

April 11, 1813; 3, Deborah, March 19, 1792; 4, Anna L. April<br />

21, 1795, married Nymphas Davis Aug. 7, 1814; 5, Benjamin<br />

Davis, July 29, 1798; 6, Mary Davis, Dec. 1, 1808, married N.<br />

S. Hallett.<br />

(31-8.) Job Gorham, son <strong>of</strong> Lieut. John, born Aug. 30,<br />

1692, married Dec. 4, 1719, Desire, daughter <strong>of</strong> Thomas Dimmock.<br />

She died Jan. 28, 1732-3, and he married 2d, in 1735,<br />

Bethia, widow <strong>of</strong> Isaac Freeman <strong>of</strong> Fairfield, Conn. She was a<br />

Sturgis, born in Yarmouth. Capt. Job Gorham died in 1762, and<br />

his widow Bethia July 11, 1769, aged 73.<br />

The will <strong>of</strong> Job Gorham <strong>of</strong> <strong>Barnstable</strong>, gentleman, is dated<br />

12th Sept. 1753, and proved Nov. 2, 1762. He names his wife<br />

Bethia Gorham, daughters Temperance Fuller and Desire Gorham,<br />

to whom he gives legacies. All the remainder <strong>of</strong> his estate<br />

he gives to his son Thomas, whom he appoints his executor.<br />

124. Temperance Gorham married Oct. 29, 1741, her cousin<br />

John Fuller, a great grandson <strong>of</strong> Capt. Matthew Fuller.<br />

125. Thomas Gorham, during the latter part <strong>of</strong> his life<br />

was blind. He was a man <strong>of</strong> sound judgment, and <strong>of</strong> industrious<br />

habits. After he became blind, he performed many kinds <strong>of</strong><br />

labor which others in his situation would not have attempted.<br />

Timothy Swinerton, the ancestor <strong>of</strong> the family <strong>of</strong> that name,<br />

lived with him when a boy. Mr. Gorham, instead <strong>of</strong> having the<br />

boy to lead him, put the boy on his horse, and taking the crupper<br />

in his hand w^alked behind the horse. When walking alone, he<br />

kept his cane in constant motion before him.<br />

He married 1st, Hannah Gorham, daughter <strong>of</strong> Ebenezer,<br />

May 16, 1754. She died April 5, 1765, and he married 2d,<br />

Widow Rebecca Jones <strong>of</strong> Yarmouth, in 1765. She united with<br />

the East Church Sept. 6, 1767, and on the 13th <strong>of</strong> that month,<br />

Edward, Lucy and Sarah, children by her first husband, and Mary<br />

by her last, were baptized. His children were : 1, Job, born 12th<br />

Dec. 1754, who married Sept. 2, 1786, Rebecca Davis. He was a
