97. Elizabeth Gorham married David Bunker <strong>of</strong> Nantucket,<br />

who was lost at sea in 1755.<br />

98. Eunice Gorham died 13th July, 1790, aged 70.<br />

100. Josiah Gorham lived at Nantucket several years, and<br />

was a captain in the whaling business. In 1756 he was in a whaling<br />

sloop, and with five other vessels, was taken by the French<br />

and carried to France.<br />

After his release he removed to Eastern,<br />

He owned a good farm in that town, and<br />

died in 1803, aged 90. His wife Deborah was received 29th 7<br />

mo. 1765, a member <strong>of</strong> the Friends Meeting at Nantucket, and<br />

renewed her connection 27th 8 mo. 1773. He obtained the good<br />

will <strong>of</strong> the Indians resident in Washington County, and they did<br />

no injury to him or his family during the Revolution. Several<br />

battles during that war was fought near his residence.<br />

101. Lois Gorham married Jonathan Macy <strong>of</strong> Nantucket.<br />

She was a very worthy woman, and her descendants are numerous<br />

at Nantucket, in New York State, Virginia and California.<br />

active and enterprising sea captain and merchant.<br />

(28-6.) Col. Shubael Gorham, son <strong>of</strong> Lieut. Col. John,<br />

born Sept. 1686, married his cousin Mary, daughter <strong>of</strong> Col. John<br />

Thaeher <strong>of</strong> Yarmouth. He died in 1746, and his widow Mary<br />

was probably the Widow Mary Gorham who died June 28, ,1778,<br />

aged 89.<br />

Col. Shubael Gorham had no estate to dispose <strong>of</strong> by his will.<br />

At his death he was hopelessly insolvent. James Lovell, Jr., was<br />

appointed Aug. 16, 1746, to administer on his estate. The inventory<br />

is dated Dec. 11, 1746, and his personal estate is apprised in<br />

Old Tenor at 479,18,6<br />

and his real estate at 2,365
