64. V. Mary, baptized July 19, 1719.<br />

The will <strong>of</strong> James Gorham, Jr., is dated Sept. 10, 1717,<br />

proved Nov. 5, 1718. He names his wife Mary and sons Isaac,<br />

Hezekiah and James, and daughter Thankful. His daughter Mary<br />

was born after his death, therefore not named. He describes land<br />

in the Common Field, bounded by the land <strong>of</strong> his uncle Shubael.<br />

Executors, his wife Mary, her brother Thomas Joyce, and Joseph<br />

Davis.<br />

land on the north <strong>of</strong> the road, in the north-<br />

the town, was then called the "Common Field."<br />

His uncle Shubael's house is yet standing, and was owned by the<br />

late Job C. Davis. James Gorham, Jr.'s land, I presume, was on<br />

the west.<br />

60. Thankful Gorham married May 16, 1701, Thomas<br />

61. Capt. Isaac Gorham married Jan. 24, 1738, Hannah<br />

Hallett, <strong>of</strong> Yarmouth. She died Aug. 19, 1741, aged 24, and he<br />

married Sept. 2, 1742, Mary Cobb, daughter <strong>of</strong> Gerfehom. He<br />

died in Scotland Jan. 1753, and his widow married James Churchill<br />

Feb. 3, 1756-7. His children by his first wife were Mary, who<br />

married Feb. 8, 1759, Elisha Hedge <strong>of</strong> Yarmouth, and Thankful<br />

who married John Hall <strong>of</strong> Yarmouth. By his second wife he had<br />

1, 'Edward, baptized Sept. 11, 1743, who probably died young,<br />

not being named in his father's will ; 2, James, baptized Aug. 4,<br />

1745, married Widow Mary Baker, had no issue ; 3, Sarah, baptized<br />

June 19, 1748, and 4, Hannah, baptized June 17, 1750.<br />

He was also the reputed father <strong>of</strong> Isaac Gorham, son <strong>of</strong> Remember<br />

Backhouse, born Aug. 19, 1746.<br />

62. Capt. Hezekiah Gorham, twin brother <strong>of</strong> Isaac, was a<br />

sea captain. He married Widow Anna Davis May 12, 1746. In<br />

her will dated March 2, 1702, she names her sous James and<br />

Jonathan and her son Josiah Davis <strong>of</strong> Gorham, in the County <strong>of</strong><br />

Cumberland, daughters Anna, wife <strong>of</strong> Sylvanus Gorham, and<br />

Susan, wife <strong>of</strong> Gorliam Easterbrooks. Also her dwelling-house<br />

and her part <strong>of</strong> the Grist Mill, which as before mentioned originally<br />

belonged<br />

to the Gorhams. I infer from her will that she<br />

<strong>of</strong> John Davis, Jr., whom she married March 25,<br />

1736, and had Josiah, John and Martha, baptized in the I^ast<br />

Church April 25, 1742. She was a daughter <strong>of</strong> Mr. James Allen,<br />

and was connected by marriage with some <strong>of</strong> the most influential<br />

and respectable <strong>families</strong> in the Colony. Capt. Hezekiah Gorham<br />

died Oct. 2, 1778, aged "about 60 years." His children born in<br />

<strong>Barnstable</strong>, 1, .lames, baptized Feb. 22, 1746-7 ; 2, Anna, July<br />

17, 1748; 3, Lemuel, May -5, 1751, died young; 4, Jonathan,<br />

Feb.<br />

4, 1753; 5, Susan, April 21, 1754; and Isaac April 13,<br />

James <strong>of</strong> this family married Rachel Easterbrooks ; Anna<br />

married Sylvanus Gorham and had a large family ; Susan married
