west end, stood a little distance north-east from William<br />

Cobb's house. His tannery was in the low ground on the<br />

north-east his house. He married Dee. 1686, Elizabeth<br />

Howes <strong>of</strong> Yarmouth. He died in 1706, aged 49, leaving<br />

a good estate, which was settled Feb. 15, 1712-13. His<br />

house lot, a part <strong>of</strong> the Dimmock farm, contained nine acres<br />

and he had thirty acres in the Common Field, adjoining the<br />

house lot on the north, lands at Stony Cove, and at Middleboro,<br />

meadows and wood land. Of the homestead two and<br />

three fourths acres were set <strong>of</strong>f to Job, bounded south by<br />

the highway, west by land <strong>of</strong> .Vlr. John Otis, (now Lot N.<br />

Otis,) and the meadow <strong>of</strong> Samuel Dimmock, north by the<br />

Creek. This land is now owned by William Cobb. To<br />

Samuel, his eldest son, and his mother, three acres, bounded<br />

south by the highway, west by Job Bacon, and north by the<br />

creek, with the barn and other buildings thereon. This land<br />

is now owned by Solomon Hinckley. To Jeremiah, second<br />

son, 3 and 1-2 acres, bounded south by the highway, west<br />

by Samuel Bacon's land, (now by the town road to the<br />

Common Field,) north by the creek, and east by Shubael<br />

Dimmock's laud. This lot was afterwards owned by Jamos<br />

Delap, and is now owned by the widow Anna Otis. Samuel<br />

had 10, Jeremiah 9 1-2 and Job 9 acres in the Common<br />

Field. Joseph had land at Stony Cove, and 1-3 <strong>of</strong> land at<br />

Middleboro, &c. Ebenezer one third <strong>of</strong> land at Middleboro,<br />

&c. Nathaniel had one third <strong>of</strong> land at Middleboro, &c. ; in<br />

his portion were 1 silver spoon, 1 silver porringer, &c.<br />

His Wid. Elizabeth, and daughters Anna and Mary had portions<br />

set to them in severalty. Sarah and Elizabeth are not<br />

named, and were probably dead.<br />

Children <strong>of</strong> Jeremiah Bacon and his wife Elizabeth Howes<br />

born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

I. Sarah, born Oct. 16, 1687, probably died young.<br />

H. Anna, born Mar. 16, 1688-9.<br />

HI.Mercy, born Jan'y 30, 1689-90, married Mar. 19, 1719,<br />

Thomas Joyce <strong>of</strong> Yarmouth, had a large family <strong>of</strong> girls<br />

noted for their beauty, which however did not prevent the<br />

father from committing suicide.<br />

IV. Samuel, born Aug. 15, 1692. He married three<br />

wives. 1st, Deborah daughter <strong>of</strong> Nathaniel Otis, who<br />

came from Nantucket and settled in <strong>Barnstable</strong>. She
