1783, aged 68, and is buried near the church in the East<br />

Parish. His widow Racbael in. Dr. Thomas Smith,<br />

Woods Holl. He had nine children, five <strong>of</strong> whom died in<br />

iniancy, namely : 1. Edward, born Oct. 19, 1742, who<br />

married Lydia Gorham, and died in 1811. 2. Lydia, born<br />

February 3, 1744-5, died April 28, 1745. 3. Nymphas,<br />

June 2, 1746, died Dec. i , 1746. 4. Sajnanel, Oct. 17,<br />

1747, died Nov, 7. 1747. 5. James, Oct. 30, 1748, who<br />

married Johanna Hamblen, and removed to Freeport Maine,<br />

fi. Susannah, Dec. 13, 1750, died March 24, 1753. 7.<br />

Sarah, born Dec. 25, 1752, died April 11, 1776. 8. Susannah,<br />

Feb. 14, 1755; and Ebenezer, Aug. 30, 1756, a distinguished<br />

man. He held many important <strong>of</strong>fices was a correct<br />

business man, <strong>of</strong> sound judgment, intelligent, a good<br />

neighbor and <strong>citizen</strong>, and hospitable to a fault. Whatever<br />

Squire Bacon said was regarded as law by his neighbors, a,<br />

fact which shows that he was a man <strong>of</strong> worth and influence.<br />

He died <strong>of</strong> consumption, in 1811, aged 55 years, leaving a<br />

numerous family, who were "trained up in the way they<br />

should go," and now that "they are old they do not depart<br />

from it." ji/y<br />

Samuel Bacon, son <strong>of</strong> Nntharfel, removed to Hingham,<br />

and married 17th Dec, 1675, Mary, daughter <strong>of</strong> John Jacob.<br />

He died in Hingham, Feb. 18, 1680-1, aged 29 years, 11<br />

mos., -23 days. In his -will dated Jan'y 13, 1680-1 he names<br />

his honored mother. Hannah Bacon, widow ; his two dauo-hters,<br />

Hannah and Mary, and his wife, Mary, whom he appoints<br />

sole executrix ; and for overseers, his father-in-law,<br />

John Jacob, <strong>of</strong> Hingham, his brother-in-law George Shove,<br />

<strong>of</strong> Taunton, Shubael Dimmock, <strong>of</strong> <strong>Barnstable</strong>, and his brother<br />

Jeremiah Bacon. He had property in Hingham and<br />

<strong>Barnstable</strong>, all <strong>of</strong> which was apprized at £334,8,2. His<br />

childien born in Hingham were Hannah, born Oct. 1676,<br />

died ;i
