VI. Joseph, baptized March 27, 1768.<br />

Capt. John Easterbrooks, Jr., was for many years captain <strong>of</strong><br />

the Liberty, a packet from <strong>Barnstable</strong> to Boston.'<br />

EWELL<br />

Henry ICwell was from Sandwich, in the County <strong>of</strong> Kent.<br />

He was a shoemaker, came over in the ship Hercules, Capt. John<br />

Witherley, in March 1634-5. He settled in Scituate, and was a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> Mr. Lothrop's church. In 1637 he volunteered and<br />

was a soldier in the Pequod war. He was a freeman in 1638,<br />

and in 1639 removed to <strong>Barnstable</strong>, and about 1 646 returned to<br />

Scituate, where he died in 1681. He married, Nov. 23, 1638,<br />

Sarah Annable, daughter <strong>of</strong> Anthony Annable. His children<br />

were: John, born in <strong>Barnstable</strong> 1639-40; Ebenezer, 1643, and<br />

Sarah 1645 ; and Hannah, born in Scituate 1649 ; Gersham,<br />

1650; Bethia, 1653; lehabod, 1659; Deborah, 1663, and<br />

Eunice. Sarah ISwell, widow <strong>of</strong> Henry, died 1687.<br />

Henry Ewell's house and barn, in Scituate, valued at £10,<br />

was burnt by the Indians in 1676. His eldest son John, lived in<br />

Boston, and died at Newbury 1686. Ichabod lived on the paternal<br />

estate, and Gershom at "Cold Spring," Scituate. None <strong>of</strong><br />

the name <strong>of</strong> Ewell now reside in <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

He resided at West <strong>Barnstable</strong>, near Mr. Annable's. On<br />

the town records his name is recorded as Henry Coxswell—<br />

blundei' <strong>of</strong> the town clerk.
