by C'apt. Samuel Mayo, Capt. Wm. Paddy, and John Barnes, and<br />

was employed to transport the goods <strong>of</strong> Rev. Wm. Leverich, <strong>of</strong><br />

Sandwich, 'to Oyster Bay, Long Island. In Ilempsted harbor his<br />

vessel was seized by Capt. Thomas Baxter, who had received a<br />

commission from the Assembly <strong>of</strong> Providence plantation. The<br />

matter was immediately investigated by the commissioners <strong>of</strong> the<br />

United Colonies. The Assembly <strong>of</strong> '^Providence disapproved <strong>of</strong><br />

the act <strong>of</strong> Baxter, stating that he had no authority to seize the<br />

Desire, and that his commission authorized him to seize Dutch,<br />

and not vessels belonging to <strong>citizen</strong>s <strong>of</strong> the United Colonies.<br />

DUN, OR DUNN.<br />

.John Dun came to <strong>Barnstable</strong> about the year 1720. His<br />

house stood on the hill at head, or south end <strong>of</strong> Straiglit Way,<br />

and his farm is yet known as Dun's field. He died .July 21, ITo.'i,<br />

aged 70, and his wife Experience Aug. 17, 1746, aged .50. He<br />

was a member <strong>of</strong> the East Church, and his children, Dorothy,<br />

Mary, and Elizabeth, were baptized April 17, 1726; John and<br />

Martha, April 24, 1726; Thomas, Oct. 1.5, 1727, and another<br />

Thomas Sept. 29, 1734.<br />

Dorothy married in 1743, Josiah Smith, tlien a resident in<br />

Plymouth; Elizabeth was published in 174,5, to Thomas Thomas,<br />

<strong>of</strong> Cambridge; but July 26, 1748, married Benjamin Casely.<br />

He has no male descendants ni <strong>Barnstable</strong>, and I have no<br />

information relative to his earlv iiistorv.
