11, 1772; Edward, baptized .Jan. 1, 1770, died young; Edward<br />

again, baptized Oct. 1778; and Davis, June 18, 1781. The<br />

descendants write their name Ford.<br />

His children born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>, and baptized at the East<br />

Church, were ?<br />

48. VI. Jonathan, baptized June 14, 1747, died young.<br />

(19-8) Stephen Davis, called Stephen Jr., to distinguish him<br />

from Stephen, son <strong>of</strong> Dolar, who was ten years his senior, was<br />

son <strong>of</strong> Josiah, born in <strong>Barnstable</strong> Dec. 12, 1700. He bought the<br />

ancient John Scudder house <strong>of</strong> his brother-in-law, John Scudder,<br />

Jr., and six acres <strong>of</strong> land, a part <strong>of</strong> Rev. Mr. Lothrop's great<br />

lot. The old house was taken downiJ^1803, by his son Jonathan,<br />

and the dwelling house <strong>of</strong> the late George Davis stands on the<br />

same spot. He married, in 1723, Rebecca , and' had alarge<br />

family, the record <strong>of</strong> which on the town books is imperfect,<br />

and the deficiencies are supplied from the Church records. He<br />

joined the East Church, and was baptized March 21, 1773, at the<br />

age <strong>of</strong> 72. He died Jan. 4, 1782, aged 81, and his wife Rebecca<br />

Nov. 28, 1769, aged 60. Both have monuments in the grave yard<br />

near the Unitarian Meeting House.<br />

57. IX. Thankful, baptized Oct. 26, 1746, married Samuel<br />
