(12-1) John Davis, Esq., son <strong>of</strong> Josiah, born in <strong>Barnstable</strong><br />

2d Sept. 1681, married, Aug. 13, 1705, Mehitable, daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Sbubnrd Dimmock. Her father resided for a time in Yarmouth,<br />

and she was a member <strong>of</strong> the Yarmouth Church, and was dismissed<br />

to the East Church in <strong>Barnstable</strong> Feb. 12, 1725-6. She<br />

died May 1775, aged 89. She was blind several years previous<br />

to her death. John Davis, Esq., was a captain, a justice <strong>of</strong> the<br />

peace, &c., and was a man <strong>of</strong> note in his day. He died 29 — —<br />

1736, aged 58, leaving a good estate. He bought a part <strong>of</strong> the<br />

great lot <strong>of</strong> Mr. Thomas Lumbard, and the house which he built<br />

thereon is now standing, and is now owned by the successors <strong>of</strong>
