daughter <strong>of</strong> her brother Joseph ; to John, son <strong>of</strong> her<br />

nephew Moses ; to Elizabeth, daughter <strong>of</strong> her brother John ;<br />

to Joseph Lothrop, son <strong>of</strong> her nephew Joseph, deceased ; to<br />

the poor <strong>of</strong> the church <strong>of</strong> which she was a member ; to the<br />

church in West <strong>Barnstable</strong> ; and to John, son <strong>of</strong> the Rev.<br />

Jonathan Russell. To her brother John's son John, (called<br />

Blue John Crocker) she bequeathed the lower great room<br />

in her house, the" bed room and the garret, and materials to<br />

put the house in good repair. The remainder <strong>of</strong> the house<br />

she bequeathed to her neice Hannah Lothrop, a single<br />

woman, then fifty years <strong>of</strong> age. All the rest <strong>of</strong> her estate<br />

she gave to her sister Mary Bursley, Experience Lothrop,<br />

Hannah Lothrop, Abigail Lothrop, and Prudence Gorham,<br />

wife <strong>of</strong> John Gorham, Esq., and daughter <strong>of</strong> Joseph<br />

Crocker.<br />

17. IX. Jabez, died in 1700, without issue, and his estate was<br />

divided among his brothers<br />

18. X. Mary, married Feb, 11, 1702, John Bursley, Jr.<br />

19. XI. Abigail. Her birth is not recorded on the town<br />

records. She died young, leaving no issue.<br />

20. XII. Bathshua, also died young, leaving no issue.<br />

Of the children <strong>of</strong> John Crocker, his son Joseph is the last<br />

whose birth is recorded on the town records. The names <strong>of</strong> the<br />

others are arranged in the order found on the Probate records.<br />

4. Samuel Crocker, son <strong>of</strong> Dea. William Crocker, born in<br />

<strong>Barnstable</strong> July 3, 1642, died Dec. 1681, aged 39. It does not<br />

appear that he married. If he had left issue, his children would<br />

probably have been named in their grandfather's will. The cause<br />

<strong>of</strong> his death is stated in the following extract from the Plymouth<br />

Colony Records, Vol. 6, page 82.<br />

An Inditement.<br />

"Indian James, thou art here indited by the name <strong>of</strong> James,<br />

for that thou, haveing not the fear <strong>of</strong> God before thyne eyes, on<br />

the one and twentyeth day <strong>of</strong> November 1681, in the town <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Barnstable</strong>, didst felloniously, willfully, and <strong>of</strong> mallice forethought,<br />

with intent to murder, kick Samuel Crocker, son <strong>of</strong><br />

William Crooker, <strong>of</strong> <strong>Barnstable</strong>, on the bottom <strong>of</strong> his belley,<br />

where<strong>of</strong> the said Samuel Crocker three weeks after died ; which<br />

thou hast don contrary to the law <strong>of</strong> God, <strong>of</strong> England, and this<br />

collonie, and contrary to the peace <strong>of</strong> our sou.'r Lord the Kinge,
