COLEMAN.<br />

Edward Coleman, <strong>of</strong> Boston, and Margaret, daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Thomas Lumbard, <strong>of</strong> <strong>Barnstable</strong>, were married at Eastham by<br />

Mr. France, Oct. 27, 1648. He was <strong>of</strong> Boston in 1655, and<br />

probably came to <strong>Barnstable</strong> soon after that date. He was<br />

admitted an inhabitant Oct. 3, 1662, and was living 26th March,<br />

1690, when the town granted 25 acres <strong>of</strong> land at "Yannows" to<br />

his son Edward, "on the condition that he do his utmost for the<br />

maintainance <strong>of</strong> his father and mother and the rest <strong>of</strong> the family."<br />

This grant was at the south-east corner <strong>of</strong> the town, bounded<br />

easterly by the bounds <strong>of</strong> Yarmouth, "south by the harbor at<br />

Yannows," west by the Hallett land, and north by the commons.<br />

Margaret Coleman was living Nov. 12, 1714 ; but Edward Senior<br />

and Junior were then both dead.<br />

Children <strong>of</strong> Edward Coleman, born in Boston.<br />

I. Edward. The date <strong>of</strong> his birth was probably 1649. He<br />

died in 1714, leaving no issue, and his estate was divided to<br />

his mother Margaret ; his sister Widow Elizabeth Hadaway ;<br />

his sister Sarah Coleman, and the children <strong>of</strong> his only<br />

brother James Coleman.<br />

II. Elizabeth, born 28th 11 mo. 1651, was the second wife <strong>of</strong><br />

the first John Hadaway, whom she married in Yarmouth,<br />

May 1, 1672.<br />

III. Mary, born 12th Sept. 1653.<br />

IV. Martha, born 8th Aug. 1655.<br />

V. Sarah, probably born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>, unmarried in 1714.<br />

VI. James, probably born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>, married Patience,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> James Cobb. He was not living in 1714, and<br />

his widow married 10th Sept. 1715, Thomas Lumbard.<br />

She died March 30, 1747, aged 78 years.<br />

Children <strong>of</strong> James Coleman.<br />

I. Edward, 25th Oct. 1695, married Thankful Lumbard, 16th<br />

Sept. 1716. The names <strong>of</strong> his children I do not find on the
