Rochester; 2, Benjamin, baptized 25th Aug. 1728, married<br />

Mehitable Hamtalin, 1652, and had Lewis, Aug. 29, 1782 ;<br />

Hannah, Sept. 6, 1754 ; and Mehitable, Dec. 27, 1756.<br />

He died before June 10, 1758, when his three children were<br />

baptized at the West Church. 3, Elizabeth, daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Joseph, was baptized 24th August 1729 ; 4, Ruth, baptized<br />

26th Sept. 1731, married 21st May, 1747, Reuben Blush ; 5,<br />

James, born 4th March, 1742 ; and Abigail, baptized 29th<br />

July 1750. Deliverance Childs who married March 3, 1757,<br />

Daniel Hamblin, was probably a daughter <strong>of</strong> Joseph born in<br />

Falmouth.<br />

Thomas ChUds, son <strong>of</strong> Richard, born 10th January, 1682,<br />

resided in the East Parish where he died, April 11, 1770, aged<br />

88. He married in 1710, Mary . Of his family only<br />

David appears to have remained in <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

Children <strong>of</strong> Thomas Childs born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

I. David, born July 20, 1711. See account below.<br />

n. Jonathan, Nov. 27, 1713.<br />

HI. Silas, March 10, 1715. Silas removed to Rhode Island,<br />

and it is said settled in Warren. He has many descend-<br />

ants.<br />

IV. Hannah, born July 29, 1720, married Prince Taylor <strong>of</strong><br />

Lebanon, Conn., March 6, 1748.<br />

V. Thomas, Sept. 10, 1725.<br />

VI. Benjamin, Dec. 4, 1727, married Rebecca, daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Stephen Davis <strong>of</strong> B., removed to Portland, had Thomas<br />

Sept. 25, 1752 ; Isaac, Feb. 10, 1755 ; and Rebecca, March<br />

9, 1769. He and his three children died early, and his<br />

widow gave her estate to her brothers and sisters in Barn-<br />

stable.<br />

VII. Mary, born April 1, 1733.<br />

James Childs, son <strong>of</strong> Richard, born 6th Nov. 1694, married<br />

Sept. 27, 1722, Elizabeth, daughter <strong>of</strong> Samuel Crocker. He died<br />

Nov. 2, 1779, aged 85.<br />

Children born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>.<br />

I. Samuel, July 15, 1723, married Feb. 20, 1752, Mary<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Thos. Hinckley, and had 1, Samuel, July 7,<br />

1753 ; Elijah, baptized Oct. 21, 1764 ; and Ebenezer, Jan.<br />

18, 1766 ; Elijah and Ebenezer <strong>of</strong> this family, owned the<br />

ancient house on the farm which was Dea. Cooper's at the<br />

settlement <strong>of</strong> the town. Ebenezer did not marry and his<br />

half <strong>of</strong> the house was sold to John Dexter. Elijah, married<br />

Nov. 10, 1785, Mary Gorham, and was the father <strong>of</strong><br />

the present Dea. Samuel Childs and other children. He<br />

was many years master <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Barnstable</strong> and Boston<br />

packet sloop Romeo.
