28, 1715. He married Feb. 12, 1718, Rebecca, daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Dr. Robert Hale. He died March 23, 1775. His son John,<br />

born Oct. 23, 1722, graduated at Harvard College 1738. He<br />

was a lawyer and resided at Marblehead. His son Ward, a<br />

graduate <strong>of</strong> Harvard College, 1770, was a Judge <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Supreme Court <strong>of</strong> New Brunswick, and died president <strong>of</strong><br />

that province. He left an only child, the late Chief Justice<br />

Ward Chipman, L. L. D.<br />

IV. Abigail, born 15th Sept., 1692, she was baptised Oct. 30,<br />

1692, by the name <strong>of</strong> Mercy. Probably her name was<br />

changed to Abigail after her baptism. She married March<br />

14, 1713, Nath'l Jackson.<br />

V. Joseph, born 10th January, 1694, according to the town<br />

record. He was baptized March 4, 1692-3, so that both<br />

records cannot be accurate.<br />

VI. Jacob, born 30th Aug., 1695, married 25th Oct., 1721, Abi-<br />

gail Fuller, she died Oct. 5, 1724, and he married for his<br />

second wife in 1725, Bethia Thomas. He had children,<br />

Sarah, born Nov. 23, 1722, and Elizabeth, June 16, 1724,<br />

afterwards changed to Abigail. The latter married July 8,<br />

1742, Stephen Cobb.<br />

VII. Seth, born 24th Feb. 1697. In 1723 he was <strong>of</strong> Plymouth ,<br />

and called a cooper. He was afterwards <strong>of</strong> Kingston, and<br />

is the ancestor <strong>of</strong> most <strong>of</strong> the name in Maine.<br />

VIII. Hannah, born 24th Sept., 1699, married Dec. 25, 1713,<br />

Barnabas Lothrop, Jr., his second wife, she died, June 11,<br />

1763.<br />

IX. Sarah, born 1st November, 1701. She died July 1, 1715,<br />

aged 14 years and 8 months, and is buried near her grandmother<br />

in the ancient burying ground.<br />

X. Barnabas, born 24th March, 1702. He was a deacon <strong>of</strong> the<br />

West Church, and was an influential <strong>citizen</strong>. He has descendants<br />

in Vermont, Michigan and Iowa. He married<br />

20th Feb., 1727-8, Elizabeth Hamblen and had 1, Barnabas,<br />

28th Dec, 1748, who married MaryBlackwell <strong>of</strong> Sandwich,<br />

in 1721, and had Martha, Sept. 4, 1752 ; Elizabeth, Feb. 8,<br />

1755 ; Joseph, May 14, 1758, deacon <strong>of</strong> the East Church<br />

Hannah, June 6, 1760; and Barnabas, Nov. 20, 1763; 2,<br />

Joseph, born 22d Dec. 1731 ; 3, Elizabeth, 12th May, 1734,<br />

she married Nov. 23, 1758, Nath'l Hinckley, 2d. ; 4, Thomas,<br />

born 5th March, 1735-6, married Bethia Fuller <strong>of</strong> Colchester<br />

in 1760, and had Timothy Fuller, Feb. 1, 1761 ;<br />

Isaac, Sept. 12, 1762, and Rebecca, Jan'y 26, 1764<br />

John Chipman, son <strong>of</strong> Elder John, born in <strong>Barnstable</strong>, March<br />

1670, was a cordwainer, or shoemaker. He removed early to<br />

Sandwich, and from thence to Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard, and
