(Telkel) Keller. She was born Oct. 20, 1835, <strong>in</strong> St. Matthew's Parish,<br />

Orangeburg Co., S. C. <strong>The</strong>y resided <strong>in</strong> Charleston, S. C.<br />

Harvey Cogswell was but two years old at tlie time of his father's death.<br />

He was reared by a Christian mother, and at the age of sixteen became a<br />

member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Cogswell was of the firm<br />

Walker, Evans & Cogswell, Publishers, Stationers, Engravers, and Pr<strong>in</strong>ters.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y published the Southern Christian Advocate. <strong>The</strong> firm formerly was composed<br />

of his brother-<strong>in</strong>-law and himself, under the name Evans & Cogswell,<br />

of Columbia, S. C. <strong>The</strong>y pr<strong>in</strong>ted the bonds, notes, etc., of the Confederacy.<br />

<strong>The</strong>ir property was all burned when Gen. Sherman was <strong>in</strong> Columbia. After<br />

the war Evans & Cogswell started bus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>in</strong> Charleston, S. C. Mr. Evans<br />

died and Mr. Walker entered the firm. <strong>The</strong>ir bus<strong>in</strong>ess was very extensive.<br />

<strong>The</strong>ir store was Nos. 3 Broad and 109 East Bay Streets. Mr. Cogswell was<br />

commissioner of the City Hospital, Charleston, S. C. He was much respected<br />

and a man of large Christian sympathies.<br />

Matilda W. (Stanton) Cogswell, was born June 13, 1843, <strong>in</strong> Brooklyn,<br />

N. Y. She married, May 9, 1866, Ezra Weeks, son of Ezra and Han-<br />

nah (Merrill) Weeks. He was born Aug. 8, 1833, <strong>in</strong> Portland, Me.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y resided <strong>in</strong> Lynn, Mass., and <strong>in</strong> Brooklyn, N. Y.<br />

Warren R., b. .March y, 1SO7.<br />
