I.niira Cogswell, when twelve years of age, <strong>in</strong> iSo6, accompanied her father <strong>in</strong>to the<br />

wilderness on horseback, ford<strong>in</strong>g the rivers, as there were no bridges, and kept house for her<br />

father and two hired men while they felled the trees and made a clear<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the forests for<br />

their future home <strong>in</strong> Madrid. X. Y. In the autumn they returned to Charlotte, Vt., and the<br />

follow<strong>in</strong>g spr<strong>in</strong>g, 1S07, Mr. Cogswell removed his family to the new home they had prepared<br />

the previous summer.<br />

well, was born Feb. 19, 1797, <strong>in</strong> Charlotte, Vt. She married, Feb. 19,<br />

\%\l, Alanson Dtirfey, sow of Elijah and Elizabeth Durfey. He was<br />

born July 22, 1797, <strong>in</strong> Vermont. <strong>The</strong>y resided <strong>in</strong> Madrid, N. Y. ; <strong>in</strong><br />

1S29 removed to Hartford, Ohio. Mr. Durfey died Feb. 17, 1848<br />

Mrs. Durfey died April 13, 185S, <strong>in</strong> Aurora, Wis.<br />
