Parsi<strong>in</strong>s B. Ci)i;s\vell completed his education at Cl<strong>in</strong>ton Grove Academy,<br />

Weare, N. H., under the <strong>in</strong>struction of ^^oses A. Cartland, Esq., and entered<br />

a pr<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g office, Nov. 25, 1847, <strong>in</strong> Concord, N. H. Mr. Cogswell pursued the<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess of a practical pr<strong>in</strong>ter and publislier, and became the associate editor<br />

of the Daily Monitor, the first daily paper started <strong>in</strong> Concord, N. H. He<br />

was a member of the City School Board from 1858 for twenty-five years. He<br />

represented Ward Five of Concord, N. H., <strong>in</strong> the State Legislature <strong>in</strong> 1872<br />

and 1S73. He belonged to the New Hampshire Historical Society, New-<br />

Hampshire Press Association, of which he was President several years, and<br />

the Athenaium and Appalachian Clubs, Boston. In 1877 he visited California,<br />

Oregon, Canada, and most of the States <strong>in</strong> the North and West. In 1878 and<br />

1S79 he travelled <strong>in</strong> Europe, Palest<strong>in</strong>e, and Eg}-pt. Mr. Cogswell was the<br />

.\uthor of Gl<strong>in</strong>ts from over the Water.<br />
