Nov. 22, 1828, Maria McKiuney, daughter of Justus and Phila<br />

McK<strong>in</strong>ney. She was born Dec. 25, 1S06, <strong>in</strong> Ell<strong>in</strong>gton, Conn. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

resided <strong>in</strong> Rockville, Conn.<br />

William Thompson Cogswell was called a " puny child." but was not<br />

lack<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> physical development as he came to man's estate, and at the age of<br />

eighty years hi^ weight was two hundred and seventy pounds. He was a<br />

build<strong>in</strong>g contractor and master builder of churches and other public build<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />

He was a man of <strong>in</strong>tegrity, temperance, and piety. For si.\ty years of bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

life, hav<strong>in</strong>g many workmen <strong>in</strong> his employ, he never furnished liquor to his men<br />

or allowed it to be used on the premises where his work was go<strong>in</strong>g on. He<br />

went to Rockville <strong>in</strong> 1823, when there were less than fifty <strong>in</strong>habitants, and saw<br />

tlie population <strong>in</strong>crease to more than seven thousand people. Mr. Cogswell<br />

was a Justice of the Peace and a Sheriff. In 1871 he published a "History<br />

of Rockville. Conn." Mrs. Cogswell was a sister of the wife of Benjam<strong>in</strong><br />

H. Throop, M. D., of Scranton, Pa. In 1884, Mr. and Mrs. Cogswell were<br />

vigorous, and spend<strong>in</strong>g the even<strong>in</strong>g of their days <strong>in</strong> the enjoyment of the<br />

fruits of their more active and well-spent lives. Dr. H. D. Cogswell 11656].<br />

of San Francisco. Cal, <strong>in</strong> 1SS3, erected a highly ornamental and costly Public<br />
