Georgp; Wash<strong>in</strong>gtun Cogswell was a soldier <strong>in</strong> the \\'ar of 1S12. In<br />

1882 his widow was liv<strong>in</strong>g and received a pension on account of his military<br />

service. He was a master carpenter, and built many churches and public<br />

build<strong>in</strong>gs. He was a man of sterl<strong>in</strong>g honesty and <strong>in</strong>dustry, and lived to the<br />

goodly age of eighty-four years. To his memory his oldest son, Dr. H. D.<br />

Cogswell [1656], of San Francisco, Cal.. erected a costly monument <strong>in</strong> the<br />

Cemetery of Orwell, N. Y. Dr. Cogswell also caused to be erected <strong>in</strong> that<br />

town a Public Dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g Founta<strong>in</strong>, at an expense of several thousand dollars,<br />

as a tribute to his father's memory.<br />

yohn^), daughter of Amos^ [523] and Sarah (Barnaby) Cogswell, was<br />

born Oct. 15, 1800, <strong>in</strong> Coventry, Conn. She married, April 9, 1826,<br />

Z'rti'/rt' /)?(^//^/o//, son of William and Candace (Salisbury) Buff<strong>in</strong>gton.<br />

He was born July 3, 1708, <strong>in</strong> Westford, Conn. <strong>The</strong>y resided <strong>in</strong> Wil-<br />

l<strong>in</strong>gton, Conn. Mrs. Bufif<strong>in</strong>gton died Sept., 1840. Mr. Buff<strong>in</strong>gton<br />

died i84c><br />
