the Union, Dr. Cogswell served professionally <strong>in</strong> the army, w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g great credit<br />

for his medical and surgical knowledge and skill. In 1876 and 1877, Dr.<br />

Cogswell was the President of the Massachusetts Medical Society, and <strong>in</strong><br />

1877 he was a member of the Governor's Council. Dr. Cogswell's qualities<br />

were those of a free and generous nature. He was large-hearted, frank, soci.d,<br />

and popular He commanded for many years a lucrative practice <strong>in</strong> Bradford,<br />

Haverhill, and vic<strong>in</strong>ity, and was highly esteemed for his ability and professional<br />

services.<br />

(Peaslee) Cogswell, was born Sept. 25, 1824, <strong>in</strong> Atk<strong>in</strong>son, N. H, She<br />

married, Dec. 16, 185 i, Xatlianicl Haven Clarke, son of Nathaniel and<br />

Betsey B. Clark, and brother of Hon. Greenleaf Clarke, LL. D., of St.<br />

Paul, M<strong>in</strong>n. He was born Feb. 26, [826, <strong>in</strong> Plaistow, N. H., where<br />

they resided.<br />
