<strong>The</strong>v resided <strong>in</strong><br />

(I'.iDFKEV Armitage was of Lynn <strong>in</strong> 1630. He was tlie son or brother<br />

of 'rbomas Armitage, who came over <strong>in</strong> the ship "James" <strong>in</strong> 1635. He was<br />

a tailor, and afterwards a merchant. Mrs. Sarah Armitage was his first wife.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y had two cliildren, viz., Samuel and Rebecca ; Samuel, born Oct. 7, 1645,<br />

died <strong>in</strong> cliildhood. Mr. .Armitage was made freeman March 14. 1639. <strong>in</strong> Boston,<br />

Mass. Mention is made of him <strong>in</strong> the letter of Joi<strong>in</strong>- Cogswell, written to his<br />

parents March, 1653, from London. Mr. Armitage appears a man of ample<br />

means. He was one of the executors named <strong>in</strong> John^ Cogswell's will. Mrs.<br />

Mary (Cogswell) Armitage may have been the Mary Cogswell who was <strong>in</strong> the<br />

family of Gov. Bell<strong>in</strong>gham, and jo<strong>in</strong>ed the Boston Church, Aug. 29, 1647. Mrs.<br />

Armitage made a deposition April 5, 1677, <strong>in</strong> the case of Cogswell vs. Cogswell.<br />

<strong>The</strong> date of her death is unknown.<br />
