for the warm personal <strong>in</strong>terest they manifested <strong>in</strong> the welfare of the churches<br />

of which thev were members, both <strong>in</strong> Hartford and <strong>in</strong> Wash<strong>in</strong>gton.<br />

Andrew Kikkpatrick" Cogswell, (yonatkau^', Xa/haiiiil''; yona-<br />

Jane Eudoni (Kirkpatrick) Cogswell, was born l\Iay 20, 1839, <strong>in</strong> East<br />

W<strong>in</strong>dsor, Conn. He married, Sept. 3, 1867, ^Mary W<strong>in</strong> Rensselaer,<br />

daughter of Gen J. Cullen Van Rensselaer, of Cazenovia, N. Y. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

resided <strong>in</strong> New Brunswick, N. J. Mrs. Cogswell died Feb. 5, 1871.<br />

Hon. Andrew K. Cogswell married, May 27, 1880, -J'irgiiiia Isal'el<br />

Latrobc, daughter of John H. B. Latrobe, Esq. She was born <strong>in</strong> Balti-<br />

more, Md. <strong>The</strong>y resided <strong>in</strong> New Brunswick, N. J.<br />

Andrew K. Cocswell graduated from Rutgers College <strong>in</strong> 1S59. He prac-<br />

tised law <strong>in</strong> New Brunswick, N. J., and was appo<strong>in</strong>ted by Gov. McClellan,<br />

April, 1879. President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas for Middlesex<br />

Co., N.J. Tliis position was once held by his great-grandfather. Col.. John<br />

Bayard, whnse eldest daughter married Hon. .Andrew Kirkpatrick, Mr. Cogs-<br />

well's maternal grandfather.<br />

Col. Joh.n Bavakd was a descendant of Nichtjlis Bayard, a French Hugue-<br />

not. He was the <strong>in</strong>timate personal friend of Washl\
