1S32. He married ^Clarissa Baher, and after her death ^Suhviu- Bahcr. Mrs. Salome Norlun<br />

survived her husband. Mr. Norton was a Deacon of the First Congregational Church <strong>in</strong><br />

South Berwick. He held the ofiice of Town Clerk fifteen years, was engaged <strong>in</strong> trade, and<br />

for twentv vears he was the Cashier of South Berwick Bank.<br />

(Lambert) Cogswell, was born Aug. 17, 1803, <strong>in</strong> South Berwick, Me.<br />

He married, June 2, 1840, Mrs. Sophia {Potter) Maim<strong>in</strong>g, daughter of<br />

Jacob and Luc}' Potter, and the widow of Jacob Mann<strong>in</strong>g. She was<br />

born <strong>in</strong> Leom<strong>in</strong>ster, Mass. <strong>The</strong>y resided <strong>in</strong> New York City. Mrs.<br />

Cogswell died Jan. 30, 1877, and Mr, Cogswell died Nov. 5, 1879.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y had no children.<br />

Mtlliam Lambert Cogswell <strong>in</strong> early life entered upon bus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>in</strong> New<br />

York City, where for many years he was a prosperous merchant. Mr. Cogs-<br />

well accu<strong>in</strong>ulated large wealth. He received <strong>in</strong> 1858 the degree of A. M.<br />

from Dartmouth College. N. H.<br />

Cogswell, was born Dec. 5, 1806, <strong>in</strong> South Berwick, Me. He<br />

married, Jan. 6, 1858, Elizabctli Riiss, of Esse.x, Mass., a step-daughter<br />

of John D. Russ, M. D., vid. [290] Memoranda. <strong>The</strong>y lived <strong>in</strong> Circle-<br />

ville, Ohio, until 1864, when they removed to Fairfield, Conn., thence<br />

to New York, where Hon. Frederic Cogswell died May 3, 1870.
