well, iH-'e Baker, was born May 30, 1793, <strong>in</strong> Dover, N. H. She married<br />

March 30, 1814, Hon. Paul Weiitworth, son of Hon. John and Margaret<br />

(Frost) Wentworth. He was born April 22, 17S2, <strong>in</strong> Dover, N. H.<br />

<strong>The</strong>y resided <strong>in</strong> Sandwich, and removed, 1845, to Concord, N. H.<br />

Mr. Wentworth died Aug. 31, 1855, <strong>in</strong> the old homestead <strong>in</strong> Sand-<br />

wich, X. H. Mrs. Wentworth died Aug. 24, 1872, <strong>in</strong> Concord, N. H.<br />

Paul M'entworth was less than five years old when his father died, and<br />

went soon after to be <strong>in</strong> his uncle's family <strong>in</strong> Lebanon, Me. In 1795 he<br />

was a member of Phillips Academy, Exeter, N. H. Afterwards he was <strong>in</strong> the<br />

store of James Jewell. Esq., of Dover, N. H., until he opened a store for him<br />

self. President Jefferson appo<strong>in</strong>ted Mr. Wentworth, May 3, 1808, Capta<strong>in</strong> of<br />

the Fourth United States Infantry. Capt. Wentworth was stationed at Fort<br />

Constitution, which commands the entrance to Portsmouth Harbor. In 181<br />

he was ordered to the Western frontier to report to Gen. Harrison. He took<br />

his company to Fort Harrison, Indiana, but resigned Oct. 29. 18 11, and <strong>in</strong><br />

1812 settled on a farm <strong>in</strong> Sandwich, N. H. Two years later he married the<br />

daughter of Col. Amos Cogswell. <strong>The</strong>y were both descendants of Eider<br />

William Wentworth, who settled, 1639, <strong>in</strong> Exeter. Mr. Wentworth was a<br />

prom<strong>in</strong>ent <strong>citizen</strong> <strong>in</strong> the State. He was Representative from Sandwich <strong>in</strong> the<br />

State Legislature seven years, <strong>in</strong> 1831-4, and 1839-41 <strong>in</strong>clusive. His residence<br />

<strong>in</strong> Concord, N. H., occupied the site of the "Old Kent Place" on Pleasant<br />
