Feb. 14, 1790, <strong>in</strong> Gilmanton N. H. He married, April 9, 181 1, Maty<br />

Smith Badger, daughter of Major Peaslee and Lydia (Kelly) Badger.<br />

She was born Sept. 13, 1790, <strong>in</strong> Gilmanton, N. H., where they resided<br />

until about 1840, when they removed to North wood, N. H., where, hav-<br />

<strong>in</strong>g survived all his children, Hon. Pearson Cogswell died, Aug. 18.<br />

Pearson Cogswell was appo<strong>in</strong>ted Colonel of the State Militia, chosen<br />

Representative to the State Legislature four years, elected State Senator <strong>in</strong><br />

1823 and <strong>in</strong> 1824 for District No. 6, and was one of the Jo<strong>in</strong>t Committee of<br />

the Legislature <strong>in</strong> 1823 to <strong>in</strong>form Hon. Le\i Woodbury of his election as Gov-<br />

ernor of New Hampshire. Hon. Pearson Cogswell was appo<strong>in</strong>ted <strong>in</strong> 1S24<br />

United States Marshal of the District Court of New Hampshire, and resigned<br />

his place <strong>in</strong> the State Senate to accept the Marshalship, which he held for<br />

twelve years through the adm<strong>in</strong>istrations of Presidents James Monroe. John<br />

Qu<strong>in</strong>cy Adams, and Andrew Jackson. Subsequently Col. Cogswell removed<br />

to Northwood, N. H., .md practised law until his death.<br />
