early life Mr. Proctor was a soldier of the Revolution, and at the age of eigliteen years was<br />

commissioned Lieutenant for meritorious conduct.<br />

the daughter of his step-mother, who died Sept. 21, 1825. Capt, Proctor married, 1826, '^Mary<br />

Crocker, of Derrv, X. H., who died April 15, 1S27. He then married ^Luc<strong>in</strong>da Gould, of<br />

Henniker, N. H. Capt. Proctor died Dec. 8, 1S36, leav<strong>in</strong>g a widow and five children. <strong>The</strong>re<br />

was one child of the first marriage, and four children of the third marriage. Of the latter,<br />

the eldest, Ed.na DE.-kX Proctor, the authoress, was born Sept. 1, 1829, <strong>in</strong> Henniker, X. H.<br />

Mrs. Liic<strong>in</strong>da (Gould) Proctor married "Capt. Joseph Thompson, of Andover, Mass. She<br />

died Nov. 15, 187S, at the residence of her daughter. Mrs. Coolidge, <strong>in</strong> South Fram<strong>in</strong>gham.<br />

ried, March 29, 1789, Abigail Clioatc, a daughter of Humphrey Choate.<br />

She was born July 29, 1767. <strong>The</strong>y lived <strong>in</strong> Chebacco Parish, Ipswich,<br />

Mass. Mr. Cogswell died Jan. 17, iS4L<br />
