Nathaniel Cogswell was a clothier. He removed, <strong>in</strong> 1798, to Stockbridge, Mass. He had<br />

ull<strong>in</strong>g mill, which he bought for $73, and two years after sold for $600.<br />

daughter of Major William^ [86] and Anna (Whittlesey) Cogswell<br />

was born Oct. 5, 1778, <strong>in</strong> New Preston, Conn. She married, Dec. 31,<br />

1797, '^Roger Averill. He was born 1775, <strong>in</strong> New Preston, Conn<br />

<strong>The</strong>y lived <strong>in</strong> Guilford, Conn. Mr. Averill died April 5, 1806. Sub<br />

sequently Mrs. Averill married, ^Dca. Jidms Caswell, of Kent, Conn<br />

Mrs. Caswell died Jan. 3, 1847.<br />

THE CHILDREN OF THE FIRST MARRIAGE WERE:<br />

Sarah, b. Feb. 18, 1799; m. Jan. 20, 1819, Zephania Conistock. of Kent, Conn.<br />

Samuel Roger, b. July 27, 1802. He died, unmarried, July 4, 1856.<br />

Mr. and Mrs. Comstock lived <strong>in</strong> Cazenovia, Madison Co., N. Y. <strong>The</strong>y had two children.<br />

It is said that Mrs. Comstock had a Record of the <strong>Cogswells</strong>, which was made by Edward<br />

Cogswell, <strong>in</strong> her possession <strong>in</strong> 1820.<br />

Emerson^ Cogswell, ( Williaw', Edward*, William'^, William-,<br />

John^), son of Major William^ [86] and Anna (Whittlesey) Cogswell,<br />

was born March 30, 1781, <strong>in</strong> New Preston, Conn. He married, Feb.<br />

5, 1804, Deborah Squires, of New Preston. <strong>The</strong>y resided <strong>in</strong> Auburn,<br />

N. Y., and <strong>in</strong> New York City, where they both died. Mr. Cogswell<br />

died Feb. 7, 1829. Mrs. Cogswell died Feb. 2, 1829.
