Jeremiah^ Cogswell, {Caleh'^, Adanv', William'^, yohn^), son of<br />

Caleb"" [ 48 ] and Mary (Tyler) Cogswell, was born, 1732, <strong>in</strong> Ipswich,<br />

Mass He married, April 17, 1760, ^Elizabetli Hall. She was born <strong>in</strong><br />

Littleton, Mass., where they lived. After Mrs. Cogswell's death Mr.<br />

Cogswell married, Oct. 31, 1771, '^Sarah Fletcher, daughter of Capt.<br />

Samuel and Mary (Lawrence) Fletcher. She was born Oct. i, [746,<br />

<strong>in</strong> Westford, Mass. Mrs. Sarah Cogswell died Jan. 11, 1814. Capt.<br />

Cogswell died (dropped dead <strong>in</strong> the field) April 17, 1820. A marble<br />

tablet marks the spot of their burial <strong>in</strong> the West Cemetery of West-<br />

ford, Mass.<br />

Ieremi.ah Cogswell carried on a large farm <strong>in</strong> Littleton. L.ite <strong>in</strong> life he removed,<br />

1S05. to Westford, Mass. <strong>The</strong>re is a record of Jeremiah Cogswell, of Boxford, cordwa<strong>in</strong>er,<br />

who bought land, .^pril 13, 1757, <strong>in</strong> Littleton, Mass.<br />

Mrs. Mary {Lawrence) Fletcher, mother of Mrs. .Sarah Cogswell, wa> the daughter of<br />

Major Eleazer Lawrence, of Littleton, son of Peleg, son of John Lawrence, who first settled<br />

<strong>in</strong> Watertown, and removed <strong>in</strong> 1762 to Groton, Mass. Major Lawrence married -Sarah<br />

Foster, and died, 1789, <strong>in</strong> Westford, Mass.<br />

Capt. Samuel Fletcher, father of Mrs. Cogswell, was son of William, son of Samuel, son<br />

of Robert Fletcher, who settled, 1630, <strong>in</strong> Concord, Mass., who was the ancestor of all the<br />

Fletchers <strong>in</strong> that vic<strong>in</strong>ity.<br />

Samuel Tuttle, who married .Martha Shattuck, daughter of the first m<strong>in</strong>ister of Littleton.<br />

was the ancestor of nearly all the Tuttles <strong>in</strong> that region.<br />

LeonardJan'is, who married Mary Cogswell [447 ], was born <strong>in</strong> Cambridge, Mass. He<br />

gradu.-Ued from Harvard College <strong>in</strong> 1797. Capt. Jarvis was a merchant. In 1S12 he removed<br />

tn P.nlt<strong>in</strong>iore Md Ili^ death occurred Nov. 16. 1S55, Capt. and Mrs. J.nvis had no childrL-i.,
