Sarah Hannah (Searle) Webster, of Saxonville, Mass., caused to be erected hi<br />

the New Cemetery of Mason a granite monument to their memory.<br />

Rr,'. Mr. Searh- graduated from Harvard College <strong>in</strong> the class of 1764.<br />

He was orda<strong>in</strong>ed to the gospel m<strong>in</strong>istry, and <strong>in</strong>stalled pastor of the Congrega-<br />

tional Church <strong>in</strong> Mason, N. H., Oct. 14, 1772. He was the first pastor of the<br />

church, and cont<strong>in</strong>ued <strong>in</strong> office about ten years. On hear<strong>in</strong>g of the battle of Lex-<br />

<strong>in</strong>gton, April 19, 1775, he preached a war sermon the ne.xt Sabbath from the text<br />

Ps. cxlix. 6, " Let the high PR..M.-iE.s hf God be i\ their mouth and a twoedged<br />

SWORD IN THEIR HAND." He resigned his pastorate <strong>in</strong> 1781, and soon<br />

after gave up preach<strong>in</strong>g, and devoted himself to agriculture and civil pursuits.<br />

He was appo<strong>in</strong>ted Justice of the Peace, and transacted much public bus<strong>in</strong>ess.<br />

This office he held until his death, which occurred when he was sixty-eight<br />

years of age. <strong>The</strong> house which Rev. Mr. Searle built and <strong>in</strong> which he lived<br />

is, 1883, stand<strong>in</strong>g, and occupied by his descendants.<br />

Me., where .Mrs. Alice Searle died, March 22, 1815. Mr. Searle married -Susan I'eazie. She<br />

was born Aug. 3, 170^, <strong>in</strong> Hir.<strong>in</strong>i, Me. <strong>The</strong>y lived <strong>in</strong> Helfast, Me. Mr. Nathaniel C. Searle<br />
