Ebenezer Ci.)r,5\VEl.l. was a sea-capta<strong>in</strong>, and his son, Ebenezer Cogswell [ 312 ]. followed<br />

the seas until his death of yellow fever <strong>in</strong> the West Indies.<br />

Riijus Cogswell [315] was a soldier of the Revolution. He was with Gen. Gates when<br />

Burgoync surrendered with his army of six thousand men, Oct. 17, 1777, at Sararoga, N. ^^<br />

After the war was over he married and lived <strong>in</strong> Herkimer, N. V., until the death of his wile,<br />

when he returned to Spencer, Mass. At the age of a hundred years, he died <strong>in</strong> Esse.x, Mass.<br />

Willianr' [39] and Mary* [36] (Cogswell) Cogswell, was born May 9,<br />

1725, <strong>in</strong> Chebacco Parisb, Ipswich, Mass. He married, March 16,<br />

1748, Mary Applctou, a daughter of Benjam<strong>in</strong> and Elizabeth (Wade)<br />

Appleton. She was born March 25, 1729, <strong>in</strong> Ipswich, Mass. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

lived <strong>in</strong> Chebacco Parish, Ipswich, Mass. He died Feb. 11, 1.S12.<br />

Mrs. Cogswell died June 30, 1813.<br />
